100 member youth delegation leaves for arch rival China on Sunday

The Third Indian Youth delegation led by Shri S.K.Arora, Secretary (Youth Affairs) will visit arch rival China from 29th June to 8th July, 2008 under Indo- China Youth Exchange Programme. During their stay in China, the 100 members delegation will visit Beijing -Guiyang – Fuzhou and Shanghai.

This year delegation comprises of youth representatives from nearly all the States and Union Territories of the country. It also includes a rich cultural troupe and Bhangra folk artists of Punjab who will bring joy and vibrancy not only amongst the youth delegates but also in the hearts of our Chinese host. The Youth delegation returns to the country on 10th July, 2008.

The exchange programme involves interaction with local youth, visits to tourist and cultural sites and introduction to economic and social activities. In addition, it also has elements of educations value with interaction and exchanges with students and faculty member meetings with economic and political personages and interactive session’s in different areas such as culture and sports. It also includes visits to rural areas.

The First 100 member Indian Youth Delegation visited China from 8th to 17th October, 2006 followed by return visit of 100-member Youth delegation from China from 20th to 29th Nov.2006.

The Second 100-member Indian Youth Delegation visited China from 7th to 16th June, 2007 to further foster and enhance the continued youth-to-youth contact between the two countries and consolidate our long-standing bilateral relations over 55 years. The second Chinese Youth delegation followed in Nov.2007 with visits to places of historical, industrial significance. There were also many interactions with the various youth organizations as well.

During the visit of the Chinese Prime Minister to India in April, 2005, it was decided to launch regular youth exchange activities between India and China. This agreement also found reference in the Joint Statement of April 11, 2005 signed by two Prime Ministers, which announced the launching of regular youth exchange activities between India and China. During his talks with the Prime Minister of India, the Chinese Prime Minister proposed to invite 100 Indian youth to China. The Prime Minister of India welcomed the proposal and, in turn, offered to invite 100 Chinese youth to India.

Further, in the Joint Declaration issued during the visit of the Chinese President to India during November 20-23, 2006, the two sides also agreed to launch a five year programme of mutual exchange of youth delegations. In this context the Chinese side invited five hundred youth from India over the next five years.
