An Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV), indigenously designed in house and built by Goa Shipyard Limited was ceremoniously launched on 4th July 2008 by Smt Bharti Kumar, wife of Hon’ble Secretary (Defence Production) Govt. of India at the Shipyard.
This is the first of the new series of Three OPVs being built at Goa Shipyard for Indian Coast Guard. The 93.89 meters vessel is well equipped with State-of- the-art Navigation and Communication equipment automated by an Integrated Bridge System (IBS), thus making the ship a versatile platform.

HCC, India’s leading construction and infrastructure development Company, has bagged the prestigious order from National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to construct the 4.4 km elevated highway at Badarpur on National Highway 2 (Mathura Road) near Delhi on BOT basis.
The contract envisages design, construction, development, finance, operation and maintenance of 4.4 kms of six lane elevated road. The cost of the project is estimated at about Rs 340 crores. The company has received the letter of award from NHAI for this project with concession period of 20 years including the construction period of 24 months.

Samtel Display Systems manufacturer of avionic equipments and systems, today announced that the indigenous Multi Functional Displays (MFD), jointly developed with Defence Avionics Research Establishment (DARE) (DRDO) and manufactured by them have got clearance for flight testing from RCMA (Regional Centre for Military Airworthiness), and was subsequently followed by flight trials.

The Defence Public Sector Undertaking, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has secured an order for supply of 7 Dhruv Advanced Light Helicopters to Ecuadorian Air Force. HAL has bagged this order amidst strong competition from M/s. Elbit, M/s. Eurocopter and M/s. Kazan. HAL’s offer of $ 50.7 million for 7 helicopters was about 32% lower than the second lowest bid from M/s. Elbit.
The first helicopter would be delivered by HAL in 6 month’s time. The contract for the supply of helicopters is likely to be signed within a few weeks. This order signifies Ecuador’s confidence in Indian technology and can lead the way for further collaboration. This contract, which will establish HAL internationally, has been extremely significant and hard fought.

The Management of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (ONGC) and its subsidiary Mangalore Refinery & Petrochemicals Ltd. (MRPL) has been considering ways and means to establish a Greenfield refinery in the SEZ at Kakinada. There have been various issues affecting the steering of Projects of Kakinada Refinery & Petrochemicals Ltd. (KRPL) and Kakinada Special Economic Zone (KSEZ).
Considering these various factors, the Management of ONGC and MRPL feel that it will be appropriate not to continue as equity partners in these two projects.

ONGC Tripura Power Co. Pvt. Ltd. (OTPC) has issued a Notice of Award to consortium of Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL) and General Electric (GE), on 23rd June 2008 for setting up 726.6 MW capacity combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) based power project in Palatana. This initiative of ONGC, the lead promoter of OTPC with 50% equity participation. The balance equity is being held by IL&FS and the Government of Tripura.
This 360X2 MW combined cycle gas turbine power plant is being developed by OTPC at Palatana in south Tripura. The generation project combined with linked transmission project and upstream gas supply project is slated to bring in investments of over Rs. 9,000 Crore, in the region.

Jet Airways has taken delivery of its latest Airbus A330-200 aircraft. Naresh Goyal, Jet Airways Chairman, formally accepted the aircraft at a ceremony at the Berlin Air Show (ILA) in presence of German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Airbus President and CEO Tom Enders.
The aircraft forms part of an order for 15 Airbus A330-200 aircraft placed between 2005 and 2007. An initial order for 10 aircraft was signed in October 2005 and this was increased to 15 in December 2007. Today’s A330-200 is the airline’s seventh aircraft directly received from Airbus. The first aircraft was delivered in April 2007.

The Cochin Shipyard Ltd., the largest Greenfield shipyard in India was incorporated in the year 1972 as a fully owned Government company. In the last three decades the company has emerged as a forerunner in the Indian Shipbuilding & Shiprepair Industry. This yard can build and repair the largest vessels in India. It can build ships up to 1,10,000 DWT and repair ships up to 1,25,000 DWT. The yard has delivered two of India’s largest double hull Aframax tankers each of 95,000 DWT , has built various types of vessels including Tankers, Bulk Carriers, Port Crafts, Passenger Vessels etc. CSL has secured shipbuilding orders from internationally renowned companies from Europe & Middle East.
Shipyard commenced ship repair operations in the year 1982 and has undertaken repairs of all types of ships including upgradation of ships of oil exploration industry as well as periodical lay up repairs and life extension of ships of Navy, UTL, Coast Guard, Fisheries and Port Trust besides merchant ships of SCI & ONGC. The yard has, over the years, developed adequate capabilities to handle complex and sophisticated repair jobs. It is ISO 9001-2000 certified for Design and manufacture of small & medium crafts upto 900 GRT , construction of ships upto 1,10,000 DWT, Repair of ships upto 1,25,000 DWT, Training of marine engineers & conducting of fire fighting courses. The Shipyard also trains graduate engineers to marine engineers who later join ships both Indian and foreign as 5th Engineers.

The International Herald Tribune (IHT) announced that it will expand in India with the launch of a branded world business section inside the Financial Chronicle, the new Indian business paper from the Deccan Chronicle Group. The IHT’s section will debut with the Financial Chronicle’s Mumbai edition launch on June 20.
The IHT logo will feature prominently on the front page and inside there will be a daily four-page version of its World Business with Reuters section, giving Financial Chronicle readers daily news and analysis on what is happening in companies and deals and in the financial markets around the world. This latest development for the IHT builds on recent expansion of its circulation in New Delhi and Mumbai where the paper is now available early each morning.

Parthasarathy Sudarshan, 47, the owner of an international electronics business, was sentenced today in the District of Columbia to 35 months in prison for his role in a conspiracy to illegally export controlled electronic components to government entities in India that participate in the development of ballistic missiles, space launch vehicles, and fighter jets.
On March 13, 2008, Sudarshan, a resident of Simpsonville, South Carolina, pleaded guilty in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia to the felony charge of conspiracy to violate the International Emergency Economic Powers Act and the Export Administration Regulations; and to violate the Arms Export Control Act and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations. Sudarshan was sentenced today by the Honorable Ricardo Urbina.

Adventity, India’s leading end-to-end knowledge and business process outsourcing company has partnered with Fostera – a rural BPO organization promoted by the District Administration of Tamil Nadu to set up a rural BPO in Krishnagiri. Fostera will provide the infrastructure for the new facility and Adventity will provide end-to-end training of the resources for the pilot batch of hires. Adventity will provide work related to voice and non-voice operations to be executed by Fostera.
The new center is expected to carry out data conversion activities and is expected to employ around 100 people initially. Adventity has already developed a specialized training programme. The company is also looking at setting similar centers in other ‘B’ class cities in India in the long run.
