The National Security Advisor (NSA) is presently examining all pros and cons of joint recommendations made by Defence, Communication & IT Ministries before release of Spectrum so that the issue of national security is not at all compromised.
Disclosing this at ASSOCHAM organized Conference on `WiMAX : Driver for Broadband in India’ here today, the Minister of State for Defence, Mr. M.M. Pallam Raju said that after the Ministry receives NSA’s observations, a decision on spectrum allocations would be taken accordingly.

India, the second largest telecom market in the world is deriving its growth in subscribers base from the otherwise underdeveloped states of Bihar and Madhya Pradesh. The state of Bihar registered maximum increase in annual telecom subscribers, registering a growth of 88.2 per cent in the previous fiscal as compared to the 51.1 per cent in FY 2006-07, according to ASSOCHAM Eco Pulse (AEP).
According to the AEP, State-wise analysis of Mobile Subscription, keeping aside Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai, the states like Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, North East region and Orissa have registered an upsurge, thanks to the major players entering into the unexplored markets in India and expanding their operations.

With roll out of 3G guidelines in June 2008 as committed by Union Communication & IT Minister, on Friday, the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) has geared up for next generation network to connect rural India with wireless communication linkages to provide broadband access initially to 23,000 district headquarters, panchayats etc. in 2008-09, its CMD, Mr. Kuldeep Goyal announced here today.
Speaking on the 2nd day ASSOCHAM organized Global Telecom Summit, Mr. Goyal said that BSNL would provide broadband linkages by going for next generation network from moving on equipment driven technology to software driven technology.

The much awaited 3G guidelines may see the light of the day as the Ministry of Communication & IT would roll them out in the month of June 2008 to enhance the mobile phone standards for 100% teledensity and extension of broadband facilities not only in urban India but also its rural part as scheduled by 2010, announced the Telecom & IT Minister. Inaugurating the ASSOCHAM organized 2-day Global Telecom Summit which begun today.
Before the guidelines are rolled out, the Minister said he would meet the Prime Minister to take his guidance on the issue as the Ministry of Communication & IT is totally serious to execute its e-governance programme to connect rural population with broadband internet and all advance facilities by improving its telecom network, said the Minister.

Indian Department of Telecommunications has sought the recommendations of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) under section 11(1)(a) (i) & (ii) on need and timing for introduction of Virtual Mobile Network Operators (VMNO) as well as terms and conditions of the License to be granted to such operators.
The decision will be taken after considering the recommendations of TRAI on the subject.
