Indian institute of Carpet Technology and Craft Development Institute inaugurated

The Indian Institute of Carpet Technology and Craft Development Institute were innagurated in Srinagar today. The two Institutions have been constructed at a cost of Rs. 9 crore and Rs. 5.30 crore respectively.

The State produces handicrafts worth Rs. 1600 crore and the handicraft items worth 1400 crore rupees are exported to other countries every year.

New Sainik School for Haryana

Haryana will soon have another Sainik School. This was stated by the Minister of State for Defence Production Rao Inderjit Singh here today. The new Sainik School, the second in Haryana, will be set up in Rewari district. The Government of Haryana has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Defence to open the Sainik School in village Tappa Gothra Khori, he added.

Rao Inderjit Singh said that the Sainik School in Rewari district will fulfill a long pending demand of the inhabitants of this region. It will also enable the youth of the region to avail of the excellent educational facilities and discipline inculcated in Sainik Schools, he added. The minister said that southern Haryana has always been the traditional recruitment ground for Defence Forces for many years.

DG NCC witness scuba diving

A day has been earmarked exclusively for National Cadet Corps (NCC) boys during each of the recruitment rally held all over India, said Lt. General Prakash Chaudhary, Director General of NCC while addressing the Media at Western Naval Command swimming pool on a day visit Mumbai where he witness the activity of NCC cadets undergoing SCUBA (Self contained underwater breathing apparatus) Diving Camp – 2008.

Addressing the media after witnessing the SCUBA diving demonstration by the NCC cadets Lt. General Chaudhary said that, we are taking special effort to increase strength of NCC cadet in Armed Forces vacancies also reserved for commission for NCC ‘C’ certificate holders.

Ground breaking ceremony for UK’s first Hindu faith-based Voluntary Aided state school

Groundbreaking ceremony, combined with a small religious ceremony that asks forgiveness from the earth before any building commences was performed to mark the beginning of its construction. The Krishna-Avanti Primary School proposes to be UK’s first Hindu faith-based Voluntary Aided state school and as such will not charge fees.

CII to provide skills training to 50,000 school dropouts

“Skills, employability and manpower development would be the key development agenda of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Southern Region, which is planning to provide pre-employment training to 50,000 school drop-outs across the region in 2008-09,” said Dr B V R Mohan Reddy, Chairman, CII - Southern Region. He added that in Andhra Pradesh alone, CII would train 5000 youth under its Grassroots Level Skill Development Initiatives. It would upgrade 24 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in Andhra Pradesh into Centers of Excellence.

Presenting the key priorities for CII in 2008-09, in a press conference here today, Dr Reddy said that Grassroots Level Skill Development Initiatives are imperative to meet India’s growing need for skilled manpower requirement, which is currently estimated to be 10 million per annum. To enhance skills and employability, CII would adopt and upgrade 50 ITIs in 2008-09, in addition to about 43 ITIs that have been already adopted by CII in the previous year through Public Private Partnership (PPP) model. CII-SR is also developing business operation manual, a ‘Blue Book’ for ITIs-IMCs that would aim at sustaining the ITIs.

Dr Reddy said that some of the other long-term initiatives of CII-Southern Region would include: developing synergistic linkages amongst manufacturing and engineering services industry, mechanisation of farm practices to enhance farm productivity and promoting Rural Business Hub through farmer - industry partnerships. Focus on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), enhancing the competitiveness of Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and international business promotion activities are some of the key long-term initiatives of CII, said Dr Reddy.

CII would facilitate building inclusive cities through PPP models. It would also focus on developing Mysore-Bangalore-Chennai Industrial Corridor on the lines of Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor, said Dr Reddy.

CII would launch six new SME Clusters in Visakhapatnam, Trichy, Bangalore, Chennai, Hosur and Kochi during the current year. As regards, short and medium term policy related issues are concerned, CII’s focus would remain on bringing power reforms in Southern States and consolidation of Goods and Service Tax (GST) by 2010.

CII would also provide modular employment training to 10000 rural youth across the region in 11 sectors such as; Automotive repair, Electricals, Hospitality, Air conditioning, Light engineering, Construction, Wellness, Retail, etc through skills training institutes.

Addressing about the Common Minimum Agenda for Andhra Pradesh, Dr Reddy said that CII is working in tune with the Andhra Pradesh Vision 2025 that aims at ensuring inclusive and sustainable growth with thrust on universal education, large scale employment generation, world class infrastructure, good governance besides enrichment of cultural traditions and values. CII Andhra Pradesh is also proposing to commission a Common Minimum Economic Agenda for Political parties on Andhra Pradesh Vision 2025.

To ensure a balanced regional development, CII would focus on developing Zones such as; Vizag, Vijayawada, Guntur, Tirupati and Rajamundry, besides promoting tier II & tier III towns in the State, said Dr Reddy. A Study on the Industrial Potential of Adilabad, Medak, Nizamabad Districts would also be undertaken this year, he said. “CII would be soon opening an Office in Vizag”, said Dr Reddy.

CII-AP would promote 100 entrepreneurs under PPP mode and work with schools on quality improvement said Mr Utpal Sen Gupta, Chairman, CII - Andhra Pradesh.

Mr Sen Gupta said that CII would work with Andhra Pradesh Government to bring out a Disaster Management Policy for the State. It would also commission a Study on promoting Tourism Cluster in Vijayawada and would create a blueprint for Vizag as a tourism destination. CII would also setup a Steel Task Force to drive Steel Cluster in Vizag, he further said. CII would create a Vision 2025 for Agri & Food Processing Sectors in Andhra Pradesh, said Mr Sen Gupta.

India to get first ever first of its kind MBA in Media and Entertainment

Manipal Education, India’s leading education group, in association with Whistling Woods International, an initiative of the well-known and acclaimed film maker, Subhash Ghai, is introducing a two year MBA degree in Media and Entertainment, for the first time in India.

In the recently concluded FICCI Frames, PWC has projected that the Indian Entertainment industry would be a Rs. 1 trillion industry by 2011 with a CAGR of 18%. If this growth is to be achieved or exceeded, skill sets with appropriate management capabilities would be needed, more so because of increased participation of corporate entities in media. Manipal Education, having identified a niche market is introducing this programme and has tied up with Whistling Woods International to provide the technical support and also conduct the industry internship and training.

Faculty of majority of B-schools lack the basic Economic awareness

In a shocking revelation, the ASSOCHAM Business Barometer (ABB) Survey revealed that a majority of teachers of the numerous B-schools in the country (except top 30 B-schools) are not aware of the basic facts about the national and the global economy such as GDP growth rate of India, the amount of exports & imports and the possible recession in the US.

The ASSOCHAM Study on “Faculty Awareness” surveying 258 faculty members of various institutes imparting Masters in Business Administration (MBA) across the country revealed that as many as 89 per cent of the teachers were unable to tell the GDP growth rate scaled by the Indian economy in the financial year 2006-07.

Virtual Classes on Supply Chain Management from CII

CII Institute of Logistics (CIL), a Centre of Excellence in logistics and supply chain management of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is launching its Distance education courses through Video Conferencing across the country. The first virtual classes through video conference mode will be organised on 18th May 2008 from Reliance web world, Chennai and will be continued on 25th May and 1st June, 2008.

Hitherto, CIL was conducting contact classes for its distance mode courses at various cities in India. However, from the Semester commencing January 2008, CIL has introduced Virtual classes through video conferencing with the facilities available at the Reliance web stores spread across India.
