ESPN STAR Sports has retained the title of Asia Cup 2008 to promote STAR Cricket, its 24 hour dedicated channel on cricket targeted at the Indian subcontinent. All the 13 matches of ‘STAR Cricket Asia Cup’ will be broadcast live & exclusive on ESPN and STAR Cricket starting June 24, 2008.
Speaking on the association of STAR Cricket with the Asia Cup, R C Venkateish, Managing Director, ESPN Software India Pvt Ltd, said, “STAR Cricket is a dedicated channel for the Indian subcontinent and there cannot be a better association than aligning with the Asia Cup where all the major cricket forces from the sub continent including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are participating. I am confident that this branding and marketing initiative will go a long way in promoting the channel further in this region.”

UEFA, the Union of European Football Associations, has marked India as an emerging TV market for UEFA EURO 2008T - the second biggest sporting event globally in terms of TV viewership. The confidence of UEFA derives from the fact that soccer’s popularity has been growing consistently in India over the past few years and the game has firmly established itself as the second most popular sport in the country. All the 31 matches of UEFA EURO 2008T will be shown LIVE on ESPN.
Speaking on the increasing soccer popularity in India, UEFA’s Marketing Director Philippe Le Floc’h said, “India is an emerging TV market for football and we are very interested in the outcome of UEFA Euro 2008T there. We expect India to be amongst the biggest viewers of the UEFA EURO 2008T football experience outside of Europe.

Optimystix Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., India’s leading content creation company, along with SAB Television recently announced the launch of ‘KRAZY KIYA RE (KKR)’– an innovative format show which seeks to unearth the ‘creative genes’ in our collective singing talent. The primary idea of all singing talent shows thus far has been to only showcase the vocal power and tone of the contestants, but rarely do these shows explore the ‘creative’ powers of the singer to twist, translate or googly the song! This has never been attempted earlier in a LIVE format talent show which aired on SAB TV from 9th May 2008.
In KKR, ‘Krazingers’ (contestants) will be tested on their creative abilities in re-engineering Hindi film songs across three broad sections.

GolTV, the all soccer network, announced today that it has acquired the exclusive U.S. and Canada broadcast rights to the 2010 World Cup qualifying matches of the Italian National Team. Reigning World Cup Champion Italy’s home matches against Montenegro, Georgia, Ireland, Bulgaria and Cyprus will be broadcast only on GolTV to North American cable, satellite and telco subscribers. GolTV will also exclusively televise six of Italy’s friendly matches, including Italy vs. Belgium on May 30.
In 2006 Italy was crowned the FIFA World Cup champion in Germany, adding to the country’s three other World Cup titles from 1934, 1938 and 1982. GolTV viewers will share in the thrills of the qualifiers as
3rd-ranked Italy quests for yet another World Cup title.

The Government propose to make it mandatory for the television-viewers to use Conditional Access System (CAS). CAS has been implemented in the notified areas of Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai. Government is in the process of evaluating the implementation of CAS in the three metros and Chennai metro area. TRAI has recommended the extension of CAS in the balance area of three metros on mandatory basis.
TRAI has also forwarded a report of the Group formed of members from different segments of the broadcasting and cable sector to suggest options and roadmap for voluntary introduction of CAS and digitalization in cable television in the country on voluntary-cum-mandatory basis.
