Israel strongly condemns the terror attack on the Indian embassy in Kabul

Foreign Ministry Director General Aaron Abramovich, currently on an official visit to India , has issued a strong condemnation of the suicide attack on the Indian embassy in Afghanistan .

“Israel strongly condemns the horrendous terrorist attack on the Indian embassy in Kabul, which killed so many innocent civilians, including staff members of the embassy”, stated D-G Abramovitch.

Arun Jaitley sees irony in PM’s call for a Federal Investigating Agency

Arun Jaitley issued a statement on Prime Minister Manmohan Singhs call for setting up a federal Investigation Agency. Jaitley said “The Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh has called for the establishment of a federal agency to investigate terrorist crimes. It is ironical that after being in prime ministerial office for 4 years the Prime Minister has finally woken up to the harsh and cruel reality that prevention and investigation of terrorism in India is on the verge of collapse.” Jaitely listed the reasons which showed that the Prime Minister’s suggestion lacks bonafides on the following reasons :-

- Whenever in the past the Inter State Council and the Union Home Ministry had mooted this suggestion several State Governments predominantly the ones ruled by Congress, opposed the proposal. (more…)

Indian extends the ban on LTTE for another 2 years

India has extended the ban on the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) as an unlawful association by two years. The notification to this effect was issued yesterday.

LTTE has been banned since 14th May 1992 by Prime Minister Narasimha Rao. The LTTE was banned on the ground that the LTTE was engaged in activities in Tamil Nadu which threatened the territorial integrity of India. The Ministry of Home Affairs Notification (New Delhi) under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (37 of 1967), mentioned following reasons:

More than 60 killed, 200 injured as terror strikes Jaipur

The Terrorists struck in Jaipur triggering eight serial blasts in a small span of 12 minutes yesterday night in market areas and near a Hanuman temple in Jaipur leaving more than 60 dead and 200 injured.

Bangladesh-based Harkut-ul-Jehadi Islami(HuJI) is suspected to be behind the blasts.

Police bomb disposal squad defused one bomb near the Hanuman temple. The blasts rocked Tripolia Bazar, Johari Bazar, Manas Chowk, Badi Choupal and Choti Choupal. All targets are located within a two-km radius in the old city.

Manipur cabinet agrees to provide guns to Heirok, Chajing

The Manipur State Cabinet today decided to provide the Heirok and Chajing people with guns for self protection. It was decided following the slaying of three people and injuring another by opening fire by PREPAK cadres at a Thabal Chongba venue at Heirok and killing of a 53 year old man by KCP (MTF) at Chajing Konjeng Leikai. They will be armed with .303 rifles and other weapons for use in safeguarding the locals from militant attacks.

In addition two units of security posts under the control of newly designated Special Police Officers will be set up at the earliest, within June this year, at Heirok and Lilong Chajing.

Indian nationals abducted in Afghanistan

An Indian national Mr. Sarang Mohammad Naeem working with a private company in Afghanistan was abducted in Herat Province last night.

The Afghan government authorities are investigating the matter but he remains untraced till now. The government claims that it is keeping a close watch on further developments concerning this incident.
