Awaiting Indian Army’s preparedness report card with Arjun Tank

The Accelerated User Cum Reliability Test (AUCRT) of Indian Army’s preparedness with Arjun tank is already over. On the tank’s part, the DRDO ensured the text book performance. The Arjun Tank performed in the searing heat of Rajasthan sands. The transmission gear which created a temporary hitch the winter trials, performed smoothly.

The trials are for checking the Indian Army’s preparation for inducting Arjun Tank and not judging the tank itself. However, the Indian Army projects that it’s more of Arjun Tank evaluation and not about Army’s preparedness.

Chidambram admits that Yashwant Sinha is a better FM

The Finance Minister, P Chidambaram finds out that good management does not come out of luck. While presenting the fist of unwanted UPA’s budget, Chidambaram gloated that Yashwant Sinha was “lucky” that the rains had come on time etc. Now that the rains are on time, hardworking farmers have brought in bumper crops, the incompetent Chidambaram is not able to control either economy or the inflation. Yesterday, the WPI for the week ending June 7, 2008 was released. Predictably, grave concern has been expressed at the rate of inflation crossing 11 per cent.

Today Chidambaram released this statement “I am happy to take note of the sober and reasonable advice given by Shri Yashwant Sinha, a prominent leader of the principal opposition party. He has suggested that Government could have gone for “deeper cuts in taxes”. I have no quarrel with the proposition. (more…)

DRDO’s Arjun Tank scores bull’s eye on Indian Army egos

Somewhere down the harsh heat of Thar deserts, one of the Defence Research and Development Organisations (DRDO) prestigious projects, the Arjun Tank, ably performs one of the stringiest of testing with Indian Army’s 43rd armour. The DRDO representatives invite as many Indian Army Armor officers to test drive it in between the tests.

South Block, New Delhi, the nation’s capital, top DRDO officials give a high pitch, power packed presentations to the defence officials.

After the Congress (I) removed Poverty (Garibi) in India, they are set out to mend the common people (Aam Admi). Since there are no poor people in India left and naturally Congress (I) has to look for some other lesser mortals to liberate. Prudent policies under the watchful eyes of The people loving Communist parties, Aam Admi has been gifted with high inflation, ricing prices and of course the latest, the hike in cooking gas, diesel, petrol etc.

Transparency International, India which exposed the attitude of the Indian Government in seeking information from the German Government about millions of dollars of un-accounted-for money, belonging to the people of India, lying in Liechtenstein, a small country near Germany, is not the only source pointing out to Indian slush money overseas. A thousand flowers bloom in West Bengal

Indian Left parties led by CPI (M) have been taking people for granted. After destroying West Bengal and Kerala economies, the Left is sabotaging the state of India at the center. While rest of India watches the current Left supported government in disgust, the common people of West Bengal, the bastion of CPI (M) and Left are set to ditch them.

As a good omen, for the first time during in three decades of continuous rule the red communist CPI-M yesterday suffered a humiliating defeat in the hands of the rural Bengal. The rural areas which hold more of illiterate poor majority were the main vote base of the CPI (M). (more…)

Technological Developments for connecting the disabled

The key to the information society is universal access. Everyone must have equal opportunity to participate in the digital age. And no one should be denied the potential benefits of new information and communication technologies (ICT), not least because they are hampered by their disabilities.

Believing this, International Telecommunication Union (ITU) this year has adopted the theme: “Connecting Persons with Disabilities: ICT Opportunities for All” to mark the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day. It is aimed at empowering every citizen with information and knowledge, improving the lines of communication to the remotest and most vulnerable groups, and building an inclusive information society geared towards the advancement of a better, more peaceful and productive world.

Indian water woes - promoting integrated water resources management

Water is a prime requirement for all aspects of life. It is imperative to make certain that adequate supplies of water of good quality are maintained for all the needs of the entire population of this planet while preserving the hydrological, biological and chemical functions of ecosystems, adapting human activities within the capacity limits of nature and combating vectors of water-related diseases. Innovative technologies, including improvements in the indigenous technologies, are needed to fully utilize the limited water resources and to safeguard them against pollution.

The fast growing population, rapid urbanization and industrialization, coupled with spatial and temporal variations in water availability, water quality problems, etc. demand an integrated approach to water resources planning and management.

A tribute to Narasimha Rao on the 10th anniversary of the nuclear test

Today is the 10th anniversary of the Pokharan II tests or the Shakti nuclear test. India was proclaimed the Nuclear weapons state. Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao was a Visionary, selfless and a tactician. He pulled the country out of the abyss created by his immediate predecessors. The visionary foresaw the changed world and navigated India through the rough years of 1990’s. One of his legacies was the run up to the second nuclear test in Pokharan. The tests did not go through due to various reasons, but, political survival or self interest was not one of them. The national interest was so paramount that he handed over the note to conduct tests to his political opponents when they came in power.

The Atal Bihari Vajpayee led NDA government wasted no time and it tested the bomb. The NDA government came to power the second time. (more…)

Rabindranath Tagore: a poetic genius

Rabindranath Tagore is no more a monopoly of the Bengalees. The new copyright formulation ending the monopoly of Vishwabharati over Rabindranath Tagore’s literary and other creations has led to a better understanding of Tagore and his works. A visit to any book fair finds young people, before bookstands, picking up Tagore’s books in their own languages and in Hindi too.

Sahitya Akademi in 1961, the centenary year of Rabindranath Tagore, published Tagore works in transliterated form. They are original Bengali works in Devanagri script. One can read the original books via their knowledge of the Devanagri script.

An Army under siege

As time has gone by, the quality of the leadership has deteriorated. It has become a 1 million plus army and it does not has the culture to make its own weapons and fight. The kargil War showed the will of the young Indian soldiers to fight and win a war, the war has exposed to the paralysis of the Indian Army (IA) leadership. The Army General had to be criticised to come back from his arms shopping trip. Estimated 700,000 Indian Army personnel deployed in mountainous Kashmir and they did not have high altitude clothing.

Indian Army leadership has taken up complaining about anything and anything around it when it comes to indigenisation of critical arms and equipment. These equipment happens to be high value and puts considerable strain on foreign exchange. This equipments also represent lucrative arms market where abnormal influences exist. (more…)
