Castrol has strengthened its position in football by signing a prestigious six-year deal as a FIFA World Cup Sponsor until 2014.
The agreement awards the global lubricants company worldwide rights for the 2010 FIFA World CupT in South Africa, the 2014 FIFA World CupT in Brazil and the two FIFA Confederations Cups which fall within the 2007-2014 period.

Sourav Ganguly capped a memorable comeback by becoming the first recipient of the Castrol Asian Cricketer of the Year Award at a function held in Karachi today.
Ganguly has had a series of successful innings since his return to the Indian cricket team during the South African tour of 2006-07. The Prince of Kolkata put together some outstanding batting performances during 2007 - his best innings being the 239 against Pakistan at Bangalore in December 2007. For his outstanding batting performance during the year, Sourav also received the overall Castrol Asian Batsman of the Year Award. The overall Castrol Asian Bowler of the Year Award was won by Muthiah Muralitharan who also entered the record book in 2007, becoming the highest wicket taker in test matches. The Castrol Asian Wicket Keeper / Fielder of the Year awards was won by Kamran Akmal.

Batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar and the comeback cricketer - Sourav Ganguly, are in the running for the Castrol Asian Cricketer of the Year Award. The duo will be competing against three Sri Lankans - Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara and Muttiah Muralitharan. This is the first time ever that an award has been instituted especially for Asian Cricketers.

The UB Group in partnership with the Gitanjali Group unveiled a diamond studded cricket bat, signed individually by the 1983 World Cup cricket champions at the “Lords of 83″ golf event held today. The bat will be auctioned in London on June 25th that also marks the silver jubilee of the landmark win for India in international cricket. The proceeds from the auction will be presented equally to all the 15 members of the 1983 winning team.

ESPN STAR Sports has retained the title of Asia Cup 2008 to promote STAR Cricket, its 24 hour dedicated channel on cricket targeted at the Indian subcontinent. All the 13 matches of ‘STAR Cricket Asia Cup’ will be broadcast live & exclusive on ESPN and STAR Cricket starting June 24, 2008.
Speaking on the association of STAR Cricket with the Asia Cup, R C Venkateish, Managing Director, ESPN Software India Pvt Ltd, said, “STAR Cricket is a dedicated channel for the Indian subcontinent and there cannot be a better association than aligning with the Asia Cup where all the major cricket forces from the sub continent including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are participating. Castrol today announced the launch of the Castrol Asian Cricket Awards which will be held in Karachi, Pakistan, on 27 June 2008, during the forthcoming Asia Cup. Mr. Naveen Kshatriya, Chief Executive, BP Lubricants - Africa, Middle East, Turkey and South Asia, made this announcement in the presence of Asian cricketing legends - Rahul Dravid, Sanath Jayasuriya and Wasim Akram. Whenever the fans of premium sportscar gather it is a sure bet that one of the cars they will be discussing is the Enzo Ferrari. Named in honor of the founder of the Ferrari motor car company the exclusive F60 Enzo was released in 2003.
Limited to only three hundred forty-nine units in the Enzo’s original production run, this vehicle was offered to previous buyers of Ferrari vehicles and, with a nearly three quarters of a million dollar price tag, was still sold-out before production even began.

Chennai Super Kings romped into the final of the Indian Premier League thrashing Kings XI Punjab by nine wickets in the second semi-final on Saturday.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s team advanced to Sunday’s summit clash with the Rajasthan Royals after a determined and disciplined effort saw them past Kings XI with some ease. Chennai’s speedsters set up the victory, reducing Punjab’s famed batting line-up to 112 for eight, before Parthiv Patel (51 not out) and Suresh Raina (55 not out) saw them home with more than five overs to spare.

UEFA, the Union of European Football Associations, has marked India as an emerging TV market for UEFA EURO 2008T - the second biggest sporting event globally in terms of TV viewership. The confidence of UEFA derives from the fact that soccer’s popularity has been growing consistently in India over the past few years and the game has firmly established itself as the second most popular sport in the country. All the 31 matches of UEFA EURO 2008T will be shown LIVE on ESPN.
Speaking on the increasing soccer popularity in India, UEFA’s Marketing Director Philippe Le Floc’h said, “India is an emerging TV market for football and we are very interested in the outcome of UEFA Euro 2008T there. An unbeaten 54 by S K Raina and his 55-run third-wicket partnership with Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni saw Chennai Super Kings score a seven-wicket win over Deccan Chargers and cruise to the semifinals of the DLF Indian Premier League.
Leading the Chennai Super Kings attack from the front, Dhoni made 37, hammering four boundaries and a huge six, while Raina blasted five boundaries and two sixes to enable the vistors win the crucial match with four balls to spare. Raina, architect of today’s win won the Man of the Match Award as also the Maximum Sixers award. J A Morkel(12) remained unbeaten, hitting one four, facing 12 balls.
