Production Begins for the New Honda FCX Clarity Fuel Cell Vehicle

Today the FCX Clarity - Honda’s advanced hydrogen fuel cell powered vehicle - came off the line at the world’s first dedicated fuel cell vehicle manufacturing facility in Japan. After 19 years of development, the arrival of this ‘real world’ fuel cell car marks the beginning of a new era of cleaner motoring.

The FCX Clarity - which emits only water from its exhaust pipe - was presented at a line-off ceremony at the Honda Automobile New Model Centre in Tochigi Prefecture, where Honda also showcased a number of the new production processes. Among the early adopters are the actress Jamie Lee Curtis and her filmmaker husband Christopher Guest, and film producer Ron Yerxa.

A race to commercially produce a Tap Water run car

The Race To Commercially Produce The First Car That Runs on Ordinary Tap Water Hots Up! Ethos, the Swiss Based Company, looks as though they have come up against some very stiff competition now from the Japanese in the race against time to commercially produce the world’s first water powered car.

They are working very closely in conjunction with Daniel Dingle, who was one of the first people in the world to convert his car to run on ordinary tap water way back in 1968. They have set up a new foundation to help bring these products to the world whilst helping Daniel to raise money to help his fellow Filipino people.

Indian develops Molecule to combat malaria

Dr Rajnikant Dixit, a post-doctoral fellow at the National Institute of Health, Maryland, USA, claims to have discovered a molecule which can help in checking the spread of malaria.

Currently working in the advanced field of mosquito-parasite interaction biology, Dr Dixit has underlined in his research study that the spread of malarial parasite can be checked through genetic engineering.

Yahoo! Files Lawsuit Against ”Lottery” Spammers

Yahoo! to protect Internet users from e-mail scams, today announced the filing of a lawsuit against “Yahoo! Lottery Spammers” for unlawfully sending e-mail messages to Internet users for the purpose of deceiving them into believing that they have won a lottery or prize offered by Yahoo!. The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York in New York City, under the Federal Trademark Act, the Federal CAN-SPAM Act, and related state laws.

The complaint alleges that without permission or authorization, and with full knowledge and notice of Yahoo!’s trademark rights, the spammers willfully masqueraded as Yahoo!, and sent e-mails claiming that the recipient had won a lottery, prize or other award from Yahoo!. Yahoo! does not offer any such awards and has no affiliation or any connection with the spammers or their e-mail communications. (more…)

IIT-Bombay, Applied Materials and SRC Collaborate to Advance Flash Memory Technology

The Semiconductor Research Corporation (SRC), through its Global Research Collaboration program, announced a collaborative effort between the Indian Institute of Technology at Bombay (IIT) and Applied Materials, Inc. to advance NAND flash memory technology. NAND flash is one of the most rapidly evolving technologies today, enabling a large variety of portable electronic devices from media players to navigation systems to solid-state drives for laptop computers. This international research effort is focused on providing breakthrough technology that can lead to a broad range of significantly smaller and more powerful portable electronic devices in the next five years.

Solar Energy Centre develops Advanced photovoltaic system

Solar Energy Centre (SEC) has developed facilities for research, development and evaluation of solar thermal and solar photovoltaic (PV) technologies. PV modules generate electricity as long as the sun shines. It is, however, necessary to qualify these modules for their performance and life before their large scale deployment.

The existing sun simulator at the Centre is capable of testing the performance of PV modules of dimensions upto 150 cm X 70 cm. The environmental conditioning tests of these PV modules of capacity upto 75W are carried out through different environmental chambers that simulate various temperature, humidity and radiation conditions.

Microsoft brings space exploration to Earth

Microsoft Corp. officially launched the public beta of its WorldWide Telescope, which is now available at http://www.worldwidetelescope.org. It is a service free of charge from Microsoft lets students and lifelong learners tour the night sky using high-resolution images from the world’s best land and space-based telescopes.

The application itself is a blend of software and Web 2.0 services created with the Microsoft high-performance Visual Experience Engine, which allows seamless panning and zooming around the heavens with rich image environments. WorldWide Telescope stitches together terabytes of high-resolution images of celestial bodies and displays them in a way that relates to their actual position in the sky.

Google supports 5 Indian languages

Google has come a long way from its first Indic transliteration release to the current support for transliteration in 5 languages — Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu — for a broader set of Google products. Google also released its very first English to Hindi translation service. Indians can now use these services to create, communicate and search in the 5 languages offered by Google.

One can now also try out googles brand new English to Hindi translation service, and the translated search feature that lets you query in Hindi, obtain search results for the translated query in English, and then see the Hindi translations of these results. Google release sad that, of the total literate Indian population, only about 13% are English literate. Keeping this in mind, this launch is a step towards ensuring that Hindi speaking users in India can benefit from the richness of the Internet, regardless of their familiarity with English language.

Cement concrete roads enjoy clear advantage over bituminous roads and are extremely longer lasting, often going for 40 to 50 years, said Shri G Sharan, Director General (Roads), Ministry of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, and added that for sustainable development, the modern society cannot do without using high performance construction material, concrete in roads and highways. This he said while addressing the inaugural session of a “Workshop on Cement Concrete Roads” here today, which was organized by the National Council for Cement and Building Materials (NCB), Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion, Ministry of Commerce and Industry in association with the Cement Manufacturers’ Association (CMA).
