Home Minister, Mr. Shivraj Patil on Monday announced that centre would allocate Rs.2000 crore to upgrade and modernize 14,000 police stations across the country to equip them to take on the menace of terrorism and internal law and order security.

Delivering his Keynote Address at the 87th Annual General Meeting of the ASSOCHAM here today, the Home Minister said that the centre is in talk with states in this regard as after all it is the state who have to finally upgrade and modernize their police force.

In a bid to provide security, peace and tranquility to common man, it has become all the more necessary to upgrade the police force physically and technologically for which the Union Home Ministry has earmarked a sum of Rs.2000 crore that would be disbursed shortly to various states for upgrading the existing police stations.

The Home Minister further said that there is a need to allocate more funds for providing better security, infrastructure, equipments etc. “The steps are being taken to cope up with new challenges involved in this respect.
The situation can be tackled and desired results can be achieved. Trends and statistics indicate the situation has not deteriorated but improved in certain areas and parts of the country”, added the Home Minister.

“We are allowing the entrepreneurs from other countries to come to India and help themselves and the people in the country. That is being done as per the agreements arrived at between different countries of the world. We would like the agreements to be just and liberal. Let us hope that they would be just and liberal and farsighted”, Mr. Shivraj Patil said.

Mr. Patil said, “human beings can do great things and bring about all round development for one and all in the shortest possible time. Therefore, in the country and the world, it is useful to cooperate and work, hand in hand, with one another. We treat the world as a family and all human beings as its members”.

“We do not think of a small piece of land, but the entire world and it is easier for us to be broad minded and all inclusive. There may be a few persons who may hold different views and who might have also been influenced by their own bitter experiences, of accidental nature, or as a result of the machinations and designs of some others, who entertain short sighted and selfish desires alone. But, the innate nature of most of the human beings in India and the world is all inclusive and helpful for cooperation, if properly tackled. There is no doubt that we support cooperation between all entrepreneurs in all parts of the world”, added the Home Minister.
