DG NCC witness scuba diving

A day has been earmarked exclusively for National Cadet Corps (NCC) boys during each of the recruitment rally held all over India, said Lt. General Prakash Chaudhary, Director General of NCC while addressing the Media at Western Naval Command swimming pool on a day visit Mumbai where he witness the activity of NCC cadets undergoing SCUBA (Self contained underwater breathing apparatus) Diving Camp – 2008.

Addressing the media after witnessing the SCUBA diving demonstration by the NCC cadets Lt. General Chaudhary said that, we are taking special effort to increase strength of NCC cadet in Armed Forces vacancies also reserved for commission for NCC ‘C’ certificate holders.

64 vacancies every year reserved in Indian Military Academy, Dehradun and 100 vacancies in Officers Training Academy, Chennai and also 10 percent in all course of Indian Air Force including Flying Training courses. NCC is going to implementing 33 percent reservation for girls and aims to reach the target in the next five years. We are also opened several nodes to train cadets to help them joining the Arm Forces. The Main Training node at Kamptee (Nagpur) & it will be develop the Officer Like Qualities in cadets, he said

The Camp will provide an Opportunity for the cadets to understand the sport of Snorkeling and Underwater Diving. Which is the long run will benefit them by way of career in underwater operations or to perceive it as an adventure sport.

During the 21 day camp a 50 cadets including girls underwent a preliminary screen of which 20 boys and 11 girls qualified to undergo the coaching in snorkeling. All three wing of Maharashtra NCC units participated in the camp. In addition to the cadets of Mumbai Groups, cadets have also come from Arafat, Napery, Jodhpur, Pane, Abramabad Group headquarters.

This annual activity of Scuba diving has caught the fancy and imagination of the NCC cadets of the state in a big way. Inspite of inherent dangers and difficulties to withstand higher atmospheric and underwater pressure the cadets have shown tremendous enthusiasm. Zeal and competitive spirit to learn the basics of underwater diving.

The Diving camp was organized by NCC Directorate of Maharashtra and it is being conducted by 1 Mah NCC Mumbai with professional expertise drawn from the Command clearance Diving team (CCDT) of the Western Naval Command, Mumbai.
