Dmitry Medvedev assumes oath as the President of Russia

Dmitry Medvedev assumed the post of Russian President after the ceremony for swearing in the Grand Kremlin Palace. The Russian Federation’s presidential elections were held on March 2, 2008. 74 746 649 voters participated in the elections. Dmitry Medvedev received 52 530 712 votes, a figure that represents 70.28 per cent or more than half of the votes cast.

During the speech the new Russian president said “Over these last eight years we have laid a solid foundation for long-term construction, for free and stable development in the decades to come. We must make full use of this unique opportunity to turn Russia into one of the world’s best countries; best in providing its people with comfort, confidence and security in their lives. This is our strategy and this is the goal that will guide us in the years ahead.”

Dmitry Anatolyevich Medvedev was born on September 14, 1965, in Leningrad. He graduated from the law faculty of Leningrad State University in 1987 and completed his post-graduate studies at Leningrad State University in 1990. Holds a PhD in law and the title of associate professor.
