INS Shardul rescues marooned fishermen at sea
INS Shardul rescued four fishermen whose boat “Ekadanta” had capsized about 20 km from the port of Karwar, Karnataka. The boat reportedly sank at morning 8 hrs on 13 September 2008 due to heavy weather and seawaves.
All four fishermen were sighted floating on a single ice box by INS Shardul, which was on routine patrol. The ship immediately undertook rescue operations and gave them first aid onboard.
The rescued fishermen were safely transported to karwar and handed over to the civil administration.
