17 dead due to landslide in Vikhroli & Chembur amid heavy rains in Mumbai

Seventeen people have died due to a landslide in Vikroli and Chembur. In Vikroli, the landslide led to collapsing of ground plus one building killing 6 people. The landslide occurred because of heavy rains which have lashed Mumbai. The rescue operation is underway.

The landslide occurred between 2 – 230 AM. when the people were sleeping.

The 5th Battalion of the NDRF team is deployed and a canine search is locating the survivors.

NDRF has reported a wall collapse in Chembur’s Bharat Nagar shanties resulting in the death of about 11 people.

Heavy rains lashed several parts of Mumbai and the weather department has issued a red alert for the city.
