Vladimir Degtyar, the general designer of the Makeev State Missile Center, said that the silo launchers for Sarmats should guarantee their safety, including when hit by nuclear weapons. According to him, the missile will leave the silo “under any conditions”, and the complex itself will be able to be placed in existing silo launchers when the infrastructure is being finalized.

The silo for “Sarmat” is a complex engineering structure that ensures the launch of a missile and guarantees its safety when hit by conventional high-precision and nuclear weapons, Degtyar told Tass.

Sarmat deployment preparations on

Roscosmos enterprises have begun serial production of Sarmat strategic missile systems, the head of the state corporation Dmitry Rogozin said on the air on the Rossiya 24 TV channel today. Rogozin said the first regiment will be on combat duty until the end of 2022 in the Krasnoyarsk Territory.

“We have already begun to create mass-produced missiles. We proceed from the fact that by the end of the year, we will have to put the first regiment in Uzhur, Krasnoyarsk Territory, on combat duty,” said Rogozin.

He added that preparations are underway for the second flight test of the Sarmat.

Earlier, the Strategic Missile Forces commander, Sergei Karakaev, said that the infrastructure created for the Voevoda missile systems was being finalized and used for the Sarmat complex.

Currently, the Uzhur missile formation in the Krasnoyarsk Territory is preparing the lead missile regiment for re-equipment with a new missile system. The range of combat equipment of the Sarmat has been increased, including the number of warheads and types, which include hypersonic gliders. This was done thanks to the power-to-weight characteristics of the rocket.

In total, Russia plans to build 46 Sarmat combat complexes.

The Plesetsk cosmodrome launched the Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile for the first time on April 20. The launch was successful. After the completion of the state testing program, the Sarmat complex will go into service with the Strategic Missile Forces (RVSN) of the Russian Federation

The intercontinental ballistic missile “Sarmat” was developed at the V.P. Makeev State Rocket Center, and the manufacturer is the Krasmash plant which is a part of Roscosmos. The RS-28 “Sarmat” ICBM is capable of delivering multiple reentry vehicles (MIRV) weighing up to 10 tons to anywhere in the world, both through the North and South Poles.
