Ladakh, one of India’s most hilly locations, now boasts its first mobile digital movie theatre. It is the world’s highest theatre, standing at 11,562 feet above sea level. On August 24, the theatre was established. According to the organizers, the theatre intends to offer the cinema experience to outlying communities. The mobile theatre is put up in the Paldan neighbourhood in Leh, Ladakh.

PictureTime Digiplex has erected the theatre. At the launch, the highly acclaimed short film ‘Sekool’ was shown at the theatre. The digital mobile theatre was inaugurated by Bollywood actor Pankaj Tripathi and Ladakh Buddhist Association President (LBA) Thupstan Chewang.

Following the opening, Mepham Otsal, a National School of Drama actor, stated, “It (the theatre) offers inexpensive tickets and has numerous conveniences.” The seating arrangement is also excellent. According to news agency ANI, “being a theatre artist is extremely excellent for the people here since it will open a door to the world of cinema.”

According to Sushil, one of the organizers, four similar theatres would be built in Leh. “The effort was taken to bring the movie experience to India’s most distant places, and it may be spread to the rest of the country.”
Theatres are designed in such a way that they may be set up at -28°C.

‘Sekool’, the first film screened in the cinema, is centred on the Changpa nomads of Ladakh and is directed by Stenzin Tankong. Later, the Bollywood film BellBottom, starring Akshay Kumar, was shown.

“For someone like me who belongs to the film business, this comes across as such a unique and distinct way of film exhibition,” said actor Pankaj Tripathi, who was a guest of honour at the inauguration of the world’s highest-altitude movie theatre. According to Mint, having a concept like this, especially in a beautiful place like Leh, is wonderful.
