INS Vikrant Docks at New Two Deck Pier in Karwar

The Indian Naval Ship (INS) Vikrant docked at Karwar’s recently built Aircraft Carrier pier today. The pier was created as part of Project Seabird, which the Indian Navy undertook to expand the space available for berthing ships at Karwar Base.

The Indian Navy has accomplished a key milestone in terms of its infrastructure with the berthing of the INS Vikrant at the new Aircraft Carrier pier. This pier features a two-deck configuration and better ship support facilities.

There are a lot of benefits that come from having piers with a two deck layout. The capacity to compartmentalise operations and utilities across multiple decks is the fundamental advantage that piers with more than one deck. Because the utilities will be located on one deck, the other deck can be used solely for operations such as entering and exiting the ship by personnel, operating mobile hoists and performing maintenance. The presence of two decks enables a more effective pier-ship contact.
