Iran tests Sadid-365s anti-tank missile featuring top attack capability

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), on April 15, successfully tested a new Sadid-365 anti-tank guided missile. Sadid means strong and reliable.

According to Ali Kuhestani, the head of the IRGC’s organisation for research and self-sufficiency of ground forces, this missile can strike at a distance of up to 8 kilometres. It can hit several types of armoured vehicles.

He stated to the Tasnim agency that the armoured personnel carriers would be used to outfit four Sadid-365s.

According to his explanation, the Sadid-365 is an optically guided missile with high precision and strikes the target from above. It can even defeat the active protection system (APS) of tanks.

In the top attack method, the rocket shoots up after leaving the launcher and dives into the target when it reaches the right height. In this way, the missile goes in a ballistic path to hit the target, which is different from how anti-armour missiles are usually used to attack from the front. This method works better than other methods because the tank’s top armour is usually the weakest.

The general explained that during the subsequent phase, the experts from the IRGC will work to improve the missile’s performance by giving it folding fins and a new fire control system.

The IRGC showed off the ground-launched form of the Almas anti-tank missile in July 2021. This top attack weapon can hit targets up to 8 kilometres away.

The IRGC had already made the version of the Almas missile that could be fired from the air by the Ababil-III drones.
