MX Player No. 1 OTT in India and ranks 3rd after YouTube and Netflix worldwide

-

The State of Mobile 2023 Report published by Data.ai (formerly App Annie), MX Player, India’s most popular over-the-top (OTT) platform, has reached yet another important milestone. In terms of video streaming downloads, the poll found that MX Player ranked first in India, coming ahead of Hotstar, Zee5, and JioTV, and third globally, after YouTube and Netflix. In India, MX Player surpassed all of these competitors. The entertainment behemoth app has continued to be very successful in 2022, thanks to an outstanding lineup of MX Original Programs. Among the many other highly-rated series, Campus Diaries, Aashram Season 3, and Dharavi Bank have been among the app’s most popular offerings this year.

Due to India’s increased consumption of over-the-top (OTT) content, MX Player has enjoyed exponential growth since it was launched in February 2019. MX Player, which is well-known for having superior storytelling in a variety of genres that appeal to a large number of age groups, was ranked fourth in India by MAU based on the likelihood of use among those aged 18 to 24. This finding was based on the demographic that MX Player targets. While it earned an impressive third place in the Entertainment OTT category for the most searched iOS AppStore keywords in 2022, it only ranked ninth in India for Top Apps by Monthly Active Users (MAUs).

The OTT platform has developed a foothold in India and reinforced its position in the global entertainment sector, ranking third globally and fourth in Singapore in terms of downloads. It also has a global reach of 17+ markets, including the United Arab Emirates, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Bangladesh, Nepal, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives.

The OTT platform has established a foothold in India and strengthened its position in the global entertainment sector. In terms of downloads, the platform ranks third internationally and fourth in Singapore, and it currently occupies the third position in Singapore. In addition to this, it operates in more than 17 markets throughout the world, some of which are the United Arab Emirates, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Bangladesh, Nepal, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives.

In his remark on the findings, the Chief Operating Officer of MX Player, Nikhil Gandhi, indicated that the year 2022 was an important turning point for MX Player for a number of reasons. The platform centred its efforts on providing the basis for an all-encompassing user experience. This included everything from analysing the audience’s pulse to generating a wide variety of content.
