Britney Spears today is ‘free’: Jamie Spears, father of the 39-year-old singer, appears to have given up the protection of his daughter. Jamie Spears filed a deed in response to her daughter’s petition in the Los Angeles Superior Court.
The artist’s father has formalized the step backwards and the renunciation of guardianship, although his lawyers point out that “there are no concrete reasons to suspend” guardianship “or remove” the parent from the position. According to Jamie Spears’ lawyers, the decision is linked to the “public confrontation with his daughter”.
The artist announced on Instagram in July that she would no longer perform if her father Jamie had retained control over his career under the tutelage granted to him in 2008.
Guardianship changes hands
As per other sources, Jamie Spears on Thursday announced his intention to resign but to continue as the singer’s legal guardian. His announcement came without a withdrawal date and with a series of conditions that will keep the responsibility of guardianship in other hands.
In documents delivered this Thursday in the Superior Court of Los Angeles, the artist’s father assured that he agrees to delegate to another person that control function that he has exercised for 13 years, although the transition will not be imminent.
“This tutelage killed my dreams,” Britney had said in a statement. In a long post on Instagram she said – So all I have is hope. ”
Guardianship was established after her father filed a court case citing concerns about his daughter’s mental health.
