The London based football club Chelsea has won the UEFA Super Cup, defeating the Spanish rivals Villarreal 7-6.

The finals, which took place in Belfast, ended with a score of 1: 1. Chelsea won the European Super Cup by breaking the deadlock in the 27th minute, with Ziyech bagging a low shot from the left. Villarreal equalized in the 73rd minute with Moreno, who scored after a remarkable joint action. On penalties, Kepa’s entry was decisive for Chelsea: the second goalkeeper entered and parried 2 penalties, giving the trophy to the blues.

The match was overseen by a Russian team of referees headed by Sergei Karasev. During the game, the 42-year-old Karasev showed five yellow cards, one of them, to Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel.

The UEFA Super Cup traditionally features the reigning winners of the Champions League (in this case Chelsea) and the Europa League (Villarreal).

The UEFA Super Cup has been played since 1972. Most often it was won by the Spanish “Barcelona” and the Italian “Milan”. Chelsea won the trophy for the second time. In 2008, Zenit St. Petersburg became the owner of the Super Cup.
