A man was allegedly shot in the head near Delhi’s IGI Airport yesterday morning in a suspected incident of road rage. The accused has been arrested. He is the son of a police officer.

Sandeep Bhati, the victim, was riding in his Hyundai Verna with three friends when the event occurred at 5 a.m. He’s been discovered to be critical and is currently undergoing treatment.

The accused allegedly fired two bullets at Bhati’s car, according to the police. The first struck the vehicle’s rear window, while the second struck Bhati in the head. Bhati was trying to overtake the Swift car twice on his route to Delhi, according to witnesses.

When they arrived at RTR Marg, the accused allegedly parked his car beside them, took out a pistol and began firing at them. While Bhati’s friends attempted to apprehend the shooter, he fled. Two of the friends drove Bhatti to Yatharth Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries, and one of them filed a complaint.

On Gaurav’s complaint, a case was filed under the IPC sections for rash driving, attempted murder, and the Arms Act.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Ingit Pratap Singh stated they received a PCR (Police Control Room) call from Bhati’s friends. “When we arrived at the scene, Bhati’s friend Ashu informed us that he had been admitted to Yatharth Hospital in Noida. Gaurav and Vipin, two of Bhati’s other friends, were waiting for us when we arrived at the hospital. Gaurav stated that they were returning from a temple in Bhiwadi when an unknown individual began following them from the airport,” according to the DCP.

According to Bhati’s friends, the accused was driving with the car’s headlights turned off, said the police.

During the investigation, police went through CCTV footage from the Delhi-Gurgaon border to Kalkaji and found the accused’s Swift car.

“The car is owned by a woman who is a resident of Kalkaji. The accused has been identified as Nitin Singh (27). After the firing incident, he went to Kalkaji and sent his car to a repair shop in Okhla which our team seized,” said DCP Singh.

Accused arrested after the complainant identified him. He said he was drunk and doesn’t remember clearly about the incident, Amit Goel, Additional DCP, South West Delhi.
