Iran today unveiled its first indigenous naval engine Makran at the 7th Azar base of the Navy. The marine engine, which has been localized and put into operation, meets the marine industry’s need for marine engines to use on warships. This engine can increase the speed of military vessels up to 30 knots. Previously, the rate of these vessels was 15 knots.

Admiral Shahram Irani, Commander of the Navy, said the marine diesel engine was “designed and built entirely by the youth of this country”, adding that the parts of this engine are “completely Iranian” and will be installed on the first Iranian missile boat.

He said that this engine has unique features and can cope with future naval missions.

“This engine has special features and is made in accordance with the continuity of naval missions and has been able to make the country self-sufficient in the production of diesel engines. There are only five countries in the world that can build marine diesel engines, and fortunately, Iran is one of these countries with the production of these engines,” he said.
