Global Innovation Index: India jumps two positions to 46th in the globe

India has improved significantly in its position on the World Intellectual Property Organization’s Global Innovation Index (GII) 2021. (WIPO). According to sources, India was rated 46th this year, an increase from the 48th position the previous year.

Since 2015, when it was rated 81st on the innovation index, the country has been steadily improving. India will reach the top 50 on the list in 2020.

According to an India Today story, “India (at 46) goes forward, by two positions (48 in GII 2020), after breaking into the top 50 last year.” It ranks second in the lower-middle-income category. India ranked third.

India is excelling in innovation:

According to studies, India has been producing technologically dynamic services that may be supplied globally.

According to the study, the country leads the globe in the export of information and communication technology services. It also does well in other categories such as domestic industry diversification (12) and scientific and engineering graduates (12).

Meanwhile, the Centre stated in an official statement that the continuous increase in the GII ranking is attributable to intellectual capital, a thriving start-up ecosystem, and the efforts of public and private research organizations.

WIPO released the GII study in conjunction with the Portland Institute, with assistance from corporate network partners such as the Confederation of Indian Industry, the Brazilian National Confederation of Industry, the Columbia-based Ecopetrol Group, and the Turkish Exporters Assembly.

According to GII, Switzerland, Sweden, the United States, the United Kingdom, the Republic of Korea, the Netherlands, Finland, Singapore, Denmark, and Germany will be the world’s top innovators in 2021.
