The Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies organised the third edition of its prestigious ‘Smt. Jyoti Dwivedi Memorial Scholarship’ ceremony on 20 June 2021. The event was flagged off by the Director of the Institute, Kavita Langhte, in attendance with the Chief Guest, Irfan Kazi, and the alumni to make the scholarship program possible, Nimish Dwivedi,  who had passed out from the institute in 1993.

The third edition of the prestigious scholarship instituted by Nimish Dwivedi, in the memory of his mother late Smt. Jyoti Dwivedi, provides a scholarship of rupees one lakh to two meritorious students and an ad hoc scholarship of rupees 50 thousand to the other deserving students matching the set criteria. The scholarship aims to meet the cost of tuition fees in the second year, based on the marks obtained in the first year and the economic condition of the student.

The winners of the two core scholarships this year are Vaibhav Tambe and Jatin Sadrani; and the ad hoc scholarship winners are Hemant Aher, Mrinali Biwalkar, Darsh Ganatra, and Shaily Kayal.

“I’m thankful to Mr. Nimish Dwivedi for the generous gesture. Surely these scholarships will support the students and will definitely give a wider scope for their careers. We’ve taken into consideration the academic performance, the financial background, and other relevant factors, and then decided the students most deserving of the scholarships. We hope that the first-year students are looking forward to getting such opportunities and hope that the students who will get the scholarships will make the best out of it. I hope that the students understand that being helped also means helping the institute and the industry as they’re the future in the making,” said Ms. Kavita Langhte.

The chief guest Irfan Kazi, Chief Investment Officer – SWAMIH Investment Fund I at SBICAP VENTURES LIMITED, who is also an alumnus of the institute and the batchmate of Nimish Dwivedi reminisced about the good old days he spent at the institute with Nimish, and he appreciated the ‘magnificent gesture’ from his former colleague.

“He had this uncanny ability, words when it came to all things related to marketing and it was very much evident. That stamp of authority was very clearly established when he published his first book ‘Marketing Chronicles,’ which was a bestseller on Amazon, and it still sells very well I believe. I had read it a long time ago and even reviewed it. I think the book is a must read for all students studying about the marketing industry,” he said.

He also explained how marketing and finance, two fields often misunderstood for being separate, often go hand in hand.

“Each chapter in the book is long enough to introduce an idea yet short enough to make this point without losing your attention. Most of all, I thought the book was a very good example of teaching, without even trying. So, it is only in retrospect that I can think of it as almost a textbook. And I would urge all students to read that book. Thank you Nimish, thank you so much for doing what you’re doing,” he said.

Nimish Dwivedi, a consumer marketing and financial veteran who has lived and worked in India, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Dubai before moving to Vietnam where he is currently working as a Business Director of cards and payments at FE credit, said “back in the days, we had no zoom, no laptops. We were at an age where we did not have the money to buy PowerPoint slides. We had huge challenges in terms of even getting textbooks to read for some of the subjects. There was no shortage of infrastructural challenges, but what stood out was our spirit. We had this fighting and winning spirit. Which is the reason we kept striving and now we’ve reached where we are right now. Let challenges not stop you in any way. The spirit of overcoming all the challenges burns much brighter and makes your Institute shine. That is what all of you have to do and must do.”

Instituted in 2019, the previous winners of the core scholarships include Rutuja Dharkar and Bhimsingh Rajpurohit in 2019; and Omkar Rudrawar and Sushmita Pazare in 2020. The ad hoc scholarship was introduced in 2020 and the winners were Ashish Jayprakash Metkar and Mayur Jayvant Dehankar.

Smt. Jyoti Dwivedi was part of the first set of women that could pursue her higher education and graduate from Rajkot, Gujarat in the sixties due to the establishment of a women’s only college. On a previous occasion, Nimish said that he could pursue higher studies only because of my mother who was a firm believer in the power of education.
