The Kalashnikov group of companies (part of the Rostec state corporation) has developed a PPK-20 submachine gun intended for the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) pilots. The weapon was first displayed on Sunday, August 22, at the Army-2021 international military-technical forum.

Denis Fisenko, Kalashnikov’s Deputy General Director for Special Projects, said that the submachine gun was successfully tested, adapted to the wearable emergency stock, and used in the cockpit.

PPK-20 has a telescopic buttstock for shooting from the left and right shoulders, a collimator sight, a Picatinny rail, an infrared beam, Fisenko specified.

The tests of the PPK-20 were carried out at the state flight test center of the Ministry of Defense in Akhtubinsk. The possibility of placing it in an ejection seat was displayed. Tests are ongoing to assess the effectiveness of the changes made.

The Kalashnikov official said that the company is ready to start the production of submachine guns. According to Fisenko, PPK-20 has significant export potential.

In February, the company release stated that PPK-20 submachine gun was based on the already familiar Vityaz-SN submachine gun. The differences, as noted, are that the PPK-20 has a revised firing mechanism and a more modern butt, unlike the Vityaz.

The company also said that deliveries of the PPK-20 submachine gun could begin in 2021.
