On Monday a masked Abrar, alias Khalid, was stopped in a vehicle at the Parimpora check post and was asked to identify himself. Sitting in the back seat, Abrar pulled a grenade out of his bag, but the security forces swiftly made their move and grabbed him. Both Abrar and the driver of the vehicle were taken into custody. After pulling his mask off, Abrar was identified as a high ranking commander in the terrorist group LeT. A pistol and hand grenades were recovered from Abrar’s procession.

On sustained inquiry by the Jammu & Kashmir Police, CRPF, and the Army, Abrar finally confessed that he had an Ak-47 rifle and kept it in his house at Maloora.

According to the Jammu & Kashmir police, the security forces, Abrar led them to his house when they were attacked by an unidentified terrorist. An assistant commandant, sub-inspector, and a constable of the CRPF were injured in the initial gunfire. The party immediately took the cover position, evacuated the injured, and called for reinforcement.

In the counter fire from Indian Security Forces, the unidentified terrorist who attacked the search party was neutralised and Abrar too got killed. Among the three injured CRPF personnel, the assistant commandant suffered critical injuries and was shifted to an army hospital.

After Abrar’s arrest, IGP Kashmir zone Vijay Kumar had given the statement that Nadeem Abrar was linked in “several killings” and that his arrest was a “big success” for the police forces.

Earlier, Abrar was found to be involved in the killing of Fayaz Ahmed, a former special police officer, and his family at their home in Pulwama District.

Abrar was acting as the commander of Lashkar in central Kashmir, was active since 2018, and was also involved in the attack on CRPF at Lawaypora in March, the police added.
