A 45-year-old man was shot by Maoist extremists in Odisha’s Left-wing insurgency-hit Rayagada area on suspicion of being a police officer in the past, according to police.

Santosh Dandasena, the victim, was pulled out of his house and executed by suspected Maoist extremists, according to police, who also left two posters warning locals against working for the police.

“(Dandasena) was warned multiple times not to provide police with any information, but he disobeyed the order and encouraged certain local youths to become police informers. These young people will face similar consequences if they do not apologise “According to the poster.

“So yet, no one has been recognised as a suspect… LWE has a presence in the area, and we conduct frequent combing operations there,” Rayagada SP Vivekananda Sharma.
