Sri Lanka reopened its border with India, announced Saturday in New Delhi by the country’s high commission, saying full-vaccine passengers will only require a negative PCR report on coronavirus (Covid-19).

The test should take place 72 hours before arrival, and the Sri Lanka High Commission said that the on-site PCR check-in should be done at a certified hotel.

“We are excited to welcome our closest neighbours once more so that they can experience the variety that Sri Lanka has to offer. Our country’s heritage, culture, wildlife, nature, beaches, and more have always proven to be popular among Indian visitors, and they will be able to visit destinations across the country while adhering to relevant health guidelines,” said Kimarli Fernando, chairperson of Sri Lanka Tourism, in a statement.

According to the latest schedule released by the Sri Lanka High Commission, Sri Lankan Airlines, the island nation’s flag carrier, will operate four weekly flights to Mumbai, three to Mumbai, and one to Bengaluru airport. The airline will also resume weekly flights between Colombo and the Indian cities of Madurai, Tiruchirappalli, Trivandrum, and Cochin. Sri Lanka Airlines will operate two flights between Colombo and New Delhi, as well as Colombo and Hyderabad.

Sri Lankan Airlines will operate four weekly flights to Chennai, three to Mumbai, and one to Bengaluru under the new schedule, with significant frequency increases.
