The unmanned version of the Armata tank has successfully passed the tests, said Vladimir Artyakov, first deputy general director of Rostec on Friday.

“For example, the well-known Armata tank was originally designed as a crew-driven vehicle. But the level of modern technology today makes it possible to turn it into a drone – we carried out the appropriate tests and they were successful,” Artyakov said in an interview with the Krasnaya Zvezda newspaper.

The head of Rostec, Sergei Chemezov, said earlier that the project of the unmanned “Armata” will not enter serial production. “Of course not. We are testing unmanned technologies on this machine. It is mainly used as a crew-driven vehicle,” said the head of Rostec.

He also explained the technologies in the Armata tank.

“If we talk about the Armata, then everything will be as automated as possible. For example, the crew of the Armata does not need to aim precisely, it is only necessary to approximately aim the gun at the target. That is, this machine uses elements of artificial intelligence that help the crew to fire. Again, the operator only needs to indicate the direction to the target, then everything is done independently, “Chemezov said.

Concern “Uralvagonzavod” (UVZ) has developed a heavy tracked platform “Armata”. The T-14 tank, the T-15 infantry fighting vehicle, and the T-16 armored recovery vehicle were created based on the platform. Equipment on the Armata platform is being tested.

Earlier, Yuri Borisov, being the Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation (now Deputy Prime Minister), said that the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation has a contract for the supply for military tests of two battalions of T-14 tanks and a battalion of BMP T-15. According to military experts, “Armata” is a new word in tank building and has no analogs in the world. This is a fundamentally new and completely Russian development. Uralvagonzavod earlier stated that the T-14 Armata tank was tested in unmanned mode.
