Russia is fulfilling contracts for the supply of Su-30SME fighters (export version of Su-30SM which is an advanced version od Su-30MK) and Yak-130 fighter jets to Myanmar. The head of the Federal Service Military-Technical Cooperation Dmitry Shugai stated this, writes Interfax.

Contracts for the supply of Su-30SME multi-role fighters and Yak-130 training and combat aircraft are being successfully implemented. Equipping them with this equipment will significantly increase the capabilities of Myanmar’s combat aircraft,” Shugai said at the MAKS-2021 air show.

According to him, Myanmar remains one of Russia’s key partners in Southeast Asia.

“I would like to note the joint progress in equipping the Myanmar Air Force with Russian aircraft of various types. Currently, the Myanmar Air Force operates MiG-29 and Yak-130 aircraft,” Shugai said.

The head of “Rosoboronexport” Alexander Mikheyev had earlier said that Russia and Myanmar are working closely on the arms market.

“We have close cooperation on the supply of military products, including aircraft,” Mikheev said.

Russia is in the process of supplying Myanmar with Pantsir-C1 complexes, Orlan-10E UAV complexes, and radar stations. They signed the relevant documents during the official visit of the Russian Defense Minister to Myanmar.

The agreement was a continuation of cooperation between the defense ministries of Russia and Myanmar, according to the Department of Information and Mass Communications of the Russian Defense Ministry.

Since 2001, the entire legal framework for bilateral military-technical cooperation has been signed between Russia and Myanmar.

Russia has supplied Myanmar with 30 MiG-29 aircraft, 12 Yak-130 combat training aircraft, 10 Mi-24 and Mi-35P helicopters, 8 Pechora-2M anti-aircraft missile systems, as well as radar stations, armored vehicles and artillery systems.
