In Akron, Ohio, a black man was shot dead by a police officer with more than 60 bullets. A policeman’s body camera image was released on the 3rd, and a protest demonstration is taking place.

The name of the victim is Jayland Walker (25). According to police, on the 27th of last month, he ran away when he asked for a stop on suspicion of a traffic violation.

Police did not initially reveal the details of the shooting, but on the 3rd, they released a car chase and a body camera image and audio that captured the moment of the shooting. A voice was recorded explaining that there was a shot from the escape vehicle.

Walker was chased for a few minutes before getting out of the car and fleeing. The police officer tried to stop it with a stun gun but failed, and eventually, all the police officers on the scene fired ammunition at Mr. Walker all at once.

Police say Walker has taken actions that pose a “threat to human life,” but this is not clearly visible in the body camera footage.

Steve Mylett, chief of Akron police, said the exact number of shots was unknown, but autopsy results indicate that Walker had received more than 60 bullets. It was revealed that eight police officers involved in the case were on leave until the internal investigation was completed.

Following this incident, Akron has been protesting for four consecutive days.
