The influence of teachers extends beyond the classroom. They teach us how to live; they teach us to be a better version of ourselves. As it is rightly said, “it is the teacher that makes the difference, not the classroom”. They prepare us for the future and guide us during every step. Teacher’s day is celebrated every year on September 5 to commemorate Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan’s birth anniversary. He was born in 1888 in a poor Brahmin family in Andhra Pradesh’s Tiruttani. He was an outstanding teacher, philosopher, and a great educationist. Dr. Sarvepalli also served as the country’s president from 1962 to 1967. During his tenure, he asked all the students and citizens to celebrate his birthday as teacher’s day.

Who does not cherish their good old school days? We miss not only our friends but also our teachers. Our school life is filled with bitter-sweet memories, but they were indeed our best days and we certainly miss them a lot.

While we can’t go back to school or college to wish our teachers on this special day, we can certainly relish the good old times with some of the best movies on this Teachers’ day. Here are 5 movies to binge-watch on this special occasion of Teachers day.

Chalk and duster (2016)

Chalk and duster is based on the life of the teacher Jyoti played by Juhi Chawla, who is passionate about teaching, she stands up for a fellow teacher, Vidya, and fights against her unjustified dismissal by the school’s new principal, Kamini Gupta.

‘Chalk & Duster’ is a small film with a big heart. It attempts to reinstate the long-forgotten values attached to the education system. It makes a plea to love and respect your teachers and talks about the values most of us have grown up with, but only a few of us remember.

Paathshaala (2010)

This film is based on the Indian education system. Shahid Kapoor, Ayesha Takia, and Nana Patekar are in lead roles. Paathshaala is a movie catering to children and focuses on the Indian education system. While asking some major questions about the education system, the movie also sheds light on the hard work of teachers. It shows that for a teacher, every student is equal no matter what the status is and their only job is to teach these children and help them become the best version of themselves in the future.

Taare Zameen par (2007)

Taare Zameen par is based on the story of Ishaan played by Darsheel Safari and his teacher Ram played by Amir Khan. Ishaan is criticised by his parents for his poor academic performance and is sent away to a boarding school. Ram, an art teacher, however, realises he has dyslexia and helps him uncover his potential.

The movie tells us that when parents cannot understand their children, it’s the teachers who come to our rescue to guide us and help us overcome our difficulties.

Notebook (2019)

Kabir played by Zahir Iqbal, an ex-soldier, becomes a teacher and finds a diary left by Firdaus, played by Pranutan Bhal, a former employee of the school. He follows the writings in the book and soon falls for the writer. Kabir adopts Firdous ways of teaching students and tries to run the school which was about to get shut down.

Apart from this love story, the movie gives us an important message that despite all the difficulties a teacher tries its best to teach their students. No matter what the circumstance is, a teacher always protects and guides their students. The movie is a remake of the 2014 Thai film The Teacher’s Diary.

Hichki  (2018)

Hichki has the message of turning your weaknesses into strengths and this movie can make a tremendous impact on our lives.

Hichki is based on the actual life story of Brad Cohen, a teacher with Tourette Syndrome whose story was made into the film Front Of The Class. The Hindi version sees Rani Mukerji take on the central role.

The movie tells that we should encourage facilitators of education as they are the flag bearers of change. Hichki taught us that while no one is perfect in this world, it is important to accept your flaws than to be ashamed of them. The movie taught us we can’t accept ourselves and embrace our flaws, the other will not do it either. So accept yourself wholeheartedly and be proud of who you are.
