Based on specific intelligence inputs received from the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) on the presence of terrorists in a particular cluster of houses in Gosia Colony, Nathipora of Sopore Town, joint forces comprising of the Rashtirya Rifles (RR), JKP and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched an operation on the afternoon of Tuesday 4 May 2021 at 1.30 pm.

After laying down the initial cordon, a house-to-house search was carried out by security forces (SF) during which terrorists retaliated with a heavy volume of fire. Subsequently, announcements were made to facilitate a surrender, however the terrorists continued to fire upon the SF. This led to a fierce gun battle between the terrorists and SF. “Strict restraint was exercised by the joint forces to avoid collateral damage,” during the firefight.

An Indian Army Spokesperson issued a statement about the operation, “A Joint operation was launched today afternoon based on inputs from the J&K Police. The area was cordoned off and contact established. A firefight ensued in which two terrorists were eliminated and an AK series assault rifle and INSAS rifle were recovered. Joint search operations are currently underway at the site of operation.”
