Russia’s United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) plans to transfer the aircraft carrier, Admiral Kuznetsov, to the Russian Navy in 2023, said the general director of the corporation, Alexei Rakhmanov on September 24.

“All dock works should be completed by the beginning of 2023,” he told RIA Novosti.

At the same time, Rakhmanov said that the situation is complicated by some circumstances. Initially it was assumed that only one of the four gas turbine units was to be unloaded and repaired. But later, it turned out that repairs were necessary for all four units. The work, according to the general director of USC, may take 10-11 months.
If no other defects are found, “Admiral Kuznetsov” will be handed over to the fleet on schedule, Rakhmanov said.

Earlier, on June 23, the vice-president for military shipbuilding of the USC Vladimir Korolev had also announced that the repair and modernization of the Russian aircraft-carrying cruiser Admiral Kuznetsov would be completed in 2023. He said that the avionics, a flight deck with a springboard, power equipment and a power plant would be replaced.

The cruiser “Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Kuznetsov” is undergoing repairs and modernization after a fire on the ship in December 2019.

The aircraft carrier is the only ship of its type in the Russian Navy. It is being renovated and modernized at the 35th shipyard in Severomorsk.
