VIDYA, an educational NGO based in Mumbai is extending a helping hand to 1,000 underprivileged children by providing them with smart tablets to ensure the academic rigour for their beneficiaries through online mode during the COVID-19 pandemic. This was possible only with the support of their corporate partner.
It has been over a year and a half since schools across the country were forced to shut in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. Students, especially those from economically weaker sections have felt the brunt.
Lack of smartphones, data costs, technology literacy, mobile connectivity and several social ills have only exacerbated the problem. But such steps taken by NGOs such as VIDYA bring back the opportunity to learn and accomplish their dreams.Â
This distribution includes students from Dnyanmandir School in Powai, Mohammadi Urdu High School and Nasheman Urdu Secondary School in Bhandup, Dharmaveer Sambhaji School in Vikhroli and for the community initiatives running at Varsha Nagar and Milind Nagar.Â
The pandemic has brought to fore the digital divide in the country and made education a privilege only a few can afford. Without regular classes, without adequate digital infrastructure, the education of these children has suffered a colossal blow. But the initiative taken by VIDYA will make sure that students, the future of our nation can get the education they need and deserve.
