Mamta Banerjee, who became the 3rd time Chief Minister of West Bengal after humiliating the PM Narendra Modi led Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) in the recent assembly elections has exposed the facts behind the recent poll violence. The followers of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak (RSS) brand of Hindutva have been trending videos on Twitter, claiming that the Trinamool Congress was behind the violence. Violence had occurred even in Delhi when the BJP lost the elections with humiliating margins. The twitter trend followed the familiar theme of Hindus being targeted in state, a hallmark of BJP’s existence.

“I have noticed that violence and clashes are taking place in those areas where the BJP have won the elections… These places can be seen as black spots,” said Mamta Banerjee.

Exposing the Election Commission of India (ECI), Mamta Bannerjee said that the violence took place when the ECI was responsible for the security. Large contingents of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were made available to the ECI to conduct the elections. Home Minister Amit Shah and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi had not reacted during the violence. BJP Chief JP Nadda visited his cadre only after the violence. The Home Minister also sought reports on the violence from Mamta Bannerjee administration after her take over as the Chief Minister. PM Modi had called up the West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar instead of the Chief Minister, leading to the speculation that President’s rule might be imposed under the guise of the violence.

She also said that some of the videos were old. “The law and order in West Bengal deteriorated in the last three months. There were some sporadic incidents and not all were real, most were fake. BJP is showing old videos,” she said.

“You have been torturing people since the elections and now, stop this. Or else, (the) law will take its course. Bengal is a land of peace, heritage and here we stay in peace with people from every section of the society,” she warned the political parties.

“I appeal to everyone to maintain peace and not indulge in any violence. We know BJP and Central Forces have tortured us a lot, but we have to maintain peace. At present, we have fight COVID-19,” she said.

The violence stopped as soon as Mamta Bannerjee too over the reigns of the state.
