What we know about the mysuru gang-rape case

The incident occurred on August 24, the accused gang raped a college student and demanded Rs. 3 lakh and said they would release the recorded video if not complied. 5 accused have been taken into custody. The survivor has left the city unwilling to give her statement.

The incident occurred on the Chamundi hills around 7 pm where the student and her male friend were stopped by the accused, who were drunk. The group was initially going to rob them but then they started with hitting and physically assaulting the boy then sexually assaulted the girl. They accused videotaped the entire incident demanding 3 lakh or said they will release the footage publicly.

The victims somehow reached a nearby hospital and said they were attacked, not revealing exactly what had occurred. Later her friend told the police what actually happened.

The police gathered information from the victims and began the search. Five people including one juvenile were arrested, they were Tamil Nadu natives, labourers who would come to Mysuru often, DG & IGP Praveen Sood.

Sood said after the accused’s arrest he asked the HC to expedite the case trial, if necessary a special prosecutor would be appointed and steps would be taken to ensure that the perpetrators were punished as soon as possible.

The survivor who was admitted to the hospital now has left the city with her family. She was unwilling to give any further statements to the police.
