BJP today said that the Indian agriculture is facing multi dimensional challenge both from within and outside. The agrarian crisis is spreading and the farmer’s indebtedness is rising thus posing a grave challenge to nation’s agri sector and also to the food security. The farmers across the country are depressed and angry as they feel let down by the UPA government.
Since the announcement of the so-called loan waiver scheme, more than 200 farmers in Maharashtra and nearly 110 farmers in Andhra Pradesh have committed suicide. This presents the pathetic condition of the farmers. The illogical and un-realistic loan waiver scheme announced with much fan-fare did not provide relief to all the needy farmers. The irony is that, of the 200 farmers committed suicide in Maharashtra, only 18 farmers are declared eligible.

Arun Jaitley issued a statement on Prime Minister Manmohan Singhs call for setting up a federal Investigation Agency. Jaitley said “The Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh has called for the establishment of a federal agency to investigate terrorist crimes. It is ironical that after being in prime ministerial office for 4 years the Prime Minister has finally woken up to the harsh and cruel reality that prevention and investigation of terrorism in India is on the verge of collapse.” Jaitely listed the reasons which showed that the Prime Minister’s suggestion lacks bonafides on the following reasons :-

Finance Minister P Chidambaram claimed today that “Although we respect human rights and laws and want these to be applied to everyone, our tolerance and respect of law should not be mistaken as soft approach towards terrorism because Government of India is determined to fight terrorism tooth and nail.” Its a lie and entire country knows it.
Then he went on to tell the obvious that terrorism has no religion and caste and no country of the world is immune to terror as every major city in the world, be it in United States or the United Kingdom, is feeling the heat of terrorism and added that the world should unite against terrorism.

Faced with stiff opposition the Congress had to withdraw its decision when the Court declared the provision of reservation on religious grounds as unconstitutional.

The BJP deplored the manner in which the UPA government has sought to disown the nuclear and atomic legacy of India on the 10th anniversary of Pokharan-II i.e. May 11. BJP National Spokesperson and MP Ravi Shankar Prasad said “We need to recall that May 11 also happens to be the 34th anniversary of Pokharan-I. In fact the nuclear explosion particularly of 1998 successfully done because of the leadership of courage displayed by Atal Bihari Vajpayee as the Prime Minister not only demonstrated the accomplishments of our brilliant nuclear scientists but in one stroke brought India in the big league of world affairs. Almost the entire world imposed sanctions and the same were lifted without India submitting at all to the discriminatory non proliferation regime. India demonstrated its ability as a responsible nuclear power by declaring the principle of no first use and non use against non nuclear country.”
The UPA government had celebrated the National Day for name sake and did not mention Atal Bihari Vajpayee ’s or nuclear tests during the celebrations.
