The Indian Army contingent arrived in Volgograd to conduct the joint Russian-Indian exercise INDRA-2021, said the press service of the Russian Southern Military District.
“A reconnaissance group of the Indian side of the joint exercise will assess the readiness of the field camp and exercise sites at the Prudboy training ground in the Volgograd region. About 250 servicemen of the motorized rifle unit of the Southern Military District and the same number of servicemen of the Indian Armed Forces will take part in the joint exercise,” says the release.
As per the Indian Government release, ” The Indian Army contingent comprising a Mechanised Infantry Battalion underwent rigorous training at different locations in India to refine their drills for participation in the joint exercise.”
The Russian military release said that 300 different targets are involved in the exercise, of which over 100 are mobile, imitating enemy vehicles and armored vehicles.
“At one stage, the units will destroy a mock enemy in a specially built settlement consisting of 3 streets and 50 residential buildings, on the territory of which 16 mobile targets will be placed: UAZ cars and about 30 growth figures simulating illegal armed formations inside buildings.”
It is planned to involve about 80 servicemen of the Southern Military District of the motorized rifle unit and about 80 servicemen of the Indian Armed Forces in the events,” adds the release.
The task of the exercise is to increase the readiness of command and control, personnel and means to combat terrorism. The servicemen will carry out tactical drills to search, detect and destroy illegal armed formations, search and destroy conventional explosive devices, conduct radiation, chemical and biological reconnaissance in buildings and on the ground.
The joint Russian-Indian exercise “INDRA-2021” will be held in the Volgograd region from August 1 to 13, 2021.
