Brazil's Artillery Arms Race! NORINCO SH15, CAESAr, ATMOS , Zuzana 2 in propelled 155 mm competition

Brazil's VBCOAP tender for 36 new 155mm self-propelled howitzers at US $186 million surprised many. Frontrunners such as Nexter's CAESAR and Elbit's ATMOS were up against an unexpected finalist: NORINCO's SH15 from China. As a non-NATO supplier, NORINCO's participation in the high-stakes artillery modernisation programme drew attention. Brazil is now assessing whether the SH15 can match its 500-kilometer range, crew capacity, and mobility requirements against established European rivals.
