A Coronavirus patient admitted at a COVID Care Center (CCC) committed suicide earlier today. The deceased had hung himself at 4:30 AM with the help of a saree from the first floor of an isolation center set up at a Polytechnic clinic in the Barshi Town of the Solapur district. Severe psychological duress as a result of contracting the virus has been speculated as the cause of suicide.
The deceased was from the town’s Chikardi village and had tested positive on 31 March 2021 following which he underwent a course of medication for four days. He had continued to feel uneasy after the medication and was subsequently admitted to a COVID facility for further treatment.
According to family members of the deceased, he had broken down emotionally and had believed that he would not survive. He had appealed his relatives to take care of his children. The spouse and children of the deceased too had contracted the virus and were admitted at the facility as well.
