When it comes to thrillers, action, suspense and plot twists, Indian creators have always outdone our expectations. But not every such ‘Masterpiece’ gets the appreciation it deserves. Following is a list of 5 such underrated Indian web series that are a ‘MUST WATCH’

The word underrated is an injustice to this thrilling series that will completely engulf you. Ashram with the lead, Baba Nirala (Sunny Deol) is a series that portrays a fictional god man from Kashipur, Uttarakhand whose influence surpasses that of the police, politicians and even God for his devotees. Baba Nirala, under the name of a religious Ashram, runs a business of drugs and weapons. The Ashram itself is no safe place. While the police are helpless when it comes to raiding the place, the Ashram is the safehouse for the drugs and weapons and the Goons who do the dirty work behind the scenes. Baba Nirala sexually harasses the female devotees on a regular basis and if anyone tries to defy Baba Nirala, they face extreme physical and mental abuse where one is even caged in an underground prison. But one such girl, Pammi, a wrestler when falls victim to the Baba’s wrong doings, turns everything upside down and rebels to the huge force that the Baba is. A young policeman, Hukum Singh, once a pet to such powerful figures himself, dedicates his life to expose the Baba as he falls in love with a Justice loving Doctor. Overall, the series has everything you expect from a thriller. Violence, drugs, suspense, investigation, undercover agents and what not. If you are a fan of Thrillers, Ashram is a show that you HAVE to watch. Cast Includes Bobby Deol, Chandan Roy Sanyal and Aditi Sudhir Pohankar.

Undekhi is a 10-episode show based on true incidents. The series unfolds as it goes on to portray the power-drunk influential people who think they can get away with anything and the oppressed, subjected to years of torture. And on the contrary, it depicts the oppressed, who finally decide to bring themselves to justice. It begins in Sunderbans, but soon shifts to Manali. In less than 30 minutes, viewers witness two murders. One powerful scene in the initial stage of the show displays this when one of two dancers at a huge wedding of rich and powerful figures, is shot in the head, “accidentally” but her body is disposed of and the scene is covered as if nothing ever happened. On the other hand, DSP Barun Ghosh played by Dibyendu Bhattacharya, with utmost honesty, is investigating the Sunderban murder of a policeman, whose mutilated body is found in the forest. Two tribal girls are on the run and Ghosh, who suspects them to be the killers, is on their trail. The show was a deep darkness behind it that gradually unfolds to the viewers is is definitely, a ‘MUST WATCH’. The cast includes Harsh Chhaya, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Abhishek Chauhan, Anchal Singh, Ayn Zoya etc.

With 8 episodes, the series lives up to, what a viewer may expect from a ‘Thriller Show’

The story revolves around an Indian Army Lawyer Monica Mehra who is put in charge of a case of a terrorist encounter during which, an Army Officer dies in the “Supposed” crossfire. What seems to be a simple case of “Death in Crossfire” soon turns out to be a huge conspiracy. Action, suspense, and plot twists are amazingly put together where sexual relationships, ex boyfriends, marriages, social status, and caste are skillfully used to weave the show. Code M is a must watch show that did not receive the hype it deserves due to the lack of Big names and superstars in the cast but is definitely, a “MUST WATCH”. The cast includes Jennifer Winget, Tanuj Virwani, Aalekh Kapoor, Keshav Sadhna etc.

Jamtara is based on a real incident. This crime-based web series, by viewers was labeled as ‘The Indian Narcos that doesn’t need a Pablo Escobar’ The story of the show revolves around a Racket run by two cousin brothers, Sunny and Rocky where the two brothers, posing as bank agents, scam people of money. And as they say, where there’s money, there’s politics. Soon things start to take unexpected turns as a Local Politician, Brajesh Bhaan takes notice of the racket and now wants his share of the pie. The drama soon takes turns to a situation where the brothers turn on each other and even get involved in a haymaker fist fight. Overall, the show is captivating and truly deserving of the title of being a ‘MUST WATCH’. The cast includes Amit Sial, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Aksha Pardasany, Sparsh Srivastava, Monika Panwar, Anshumaan Pushkar etc.

Delhi Crime (Netflix)

Delhi Crime is based on the 2012 Delhi gang rape case that took place in the neighbourhood of Munirka, in South Delhi. The series follows the story in the aftermath of the gang rape, where Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Vartika Chaturvedi is tasked to find the culprits responsible for the assaults and death of the female victim. The series unfolds itself with the suspense that keeps the viewer gripped from the opening to the end. As the main lead, Shefali Shah portrayed the character of DCP Vartika Chaturvedi in the show. Thrill, suspense, and drama are the core of this show. Furthermore, there isn’t much to say about the show except, ‘One you start watching it, there is no stopping’. The cast includes Shefali Shah, Rasika Dugal, Rajesh Tailang etc.
