A large asteroid 2015 KJ19, possibly larger than the height of the Cheops pyramid, will pass Earth on May 14, according to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). According to JPL Small-Body Database Browser, the asteroid has a diameter of 88 to 200 meters. The height of the Cheops pyramid is 147 meters. It will approach the minimum distance to the Earth at 3.30 PM Indian Standard Time (IST).
The closest point of the flight path will be located at a distance of 15 times farther than from the Earth to the Moon and hence the asteroid is not dangerous.
The period of the asteroids revolution around the Sun exceeds 1094 Earth days.
2015 KJ19 is part of the asteroid Apollo, which orbits close to Earth. Like all asteroids, this asteroid is formed from the primordial solar nebula as a planetesimal rupture, an object in a young terrestrial nebula that is not large enough to turn into a planet.
