The Moskvich automobile plant has initiated production of the new Russian Atom electric vehicle. The launch marks an important stage as it plans to manufacture the vehicle with a high degree of technological integration at a Russian production facility.

Production of the Atom is organized according to a full technological cycle. This includes the key operations required to manufacture a finished vehicle: small-unit body welding, painting, anti-corrosion treatment, assembly, adjustment, and tuning of mechanical components, as well as the configuration and calibration of electronic systems. Upon completion of the assembly process, each vehicle is subjected to final quality control and testing.

This means the project involves more than simply assembling already completed vehicles. At the Moskvich production site, a substantial portion of the technological operations are executed directly. This is particularly important for the Atom project because a modern electric vehicle is a complex combination of mechanical components, power electronics, software, and electronic control systems.

204 Horsepower and Up to 500 Kilometers of Range

The Atom is powered by a 150 kW electric motor, which is equivalent to approximately 204 horsepower. The manufacturer asserts that the vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere seven seconds.

This specification prioritizes dynamic performance in addition to efficiency for an electric vehicle designed for urban environments. One of the distinguishing features of electric vehicles is the ability of an electric motor to provide traction almost immediately upon the application of the accelerator.

The Atom has been reported to have a range of up to 500 kilometers on a single charge. The actual distance will be contingent upon the use of the climate-control system, ambient temperature, driving speed, and operating conditions, as is the case with other electric vehicles.

Pre-Production Atom Has Already Undergone Testing

This testing enables the evaluation of the vehicle in motion and the acquisition of an understanding of its behavior before to the introduction of serial-production vehicles to the market.

On paper, the Atom’s specifications are designed to meet the requirements of the contemporary urban driver, including a stated range of up to 500 kilometers, an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in seven seconds, and 150 kW of power. The project’s main challenge now is no longer simply creating a pre-production vehicle, but ensuring stable serial production.
