Dr. S. K. Vasudeva has done Doctorate in Organic Chemistry from Punjabi University, Patiala. He joined the Defence Research and Development Organisation in 1971 after training in Armaments at the Institute of Armament Technology in Pune, and then he joined the Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL) in Chandigarh.
In 1975, he did his Post Doctoral Research in the area of explosives from Technical University, Warsaw under Prof.T.Urbanski. He was deputed to MBB, Schrobenhausen, West Germany for training in Warhead Technology. He also worked at the Swedish Detonics Research Laboratory, Stockholm, in the field of High Pressure Physics Studies.
After thirty years of his stint at Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL), Chandigarh, in 2001, he was appointed as Director, Strategic Systems , Delhi, and then as Chief Controller Research and Development. He retired in 2011 and served as Program Director Strategic Systems upto 2013.
During his forty-three years at DRDO, he primarily focused on R&D in armament system design and development, operationalisation, and high-pressure physics studies. He conducted various armament courses for Defence scientists and Armed Personnel. He participated in the POKHRAN 1 and POKHRAN 2 (Shakti 98) explosions.
For his achievements, he received several DRDO awards from time to time, including the "Path Breaking Research Award" (from MOD) in 1999, the "Scientist of the Year" award in 2002, the "Award for Performance Excellence" in 2006, the "Special Award for Strategic Contribution" in 2007, and the "Technology Leadership Award" in 2009.He received recognition for his contributions to the advancement of State of the Art Strategic Systems. He was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Prime Minister in 2014.
In 2013 he joined the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to Govt Of India (PSA) as a Raja Ramanna Fellow (Dept. of Atomic Energy) for a period of three years. Since 2016 he has been working as Principal Scientific Adviser Fellow and Scientific Consultant (Defence Technologies) in the office of PSA. He is also Visiting Fellow at the Centre for Land Warfare Studies (CLAWS) and Distinguished Fellow of the Aerospace and Defence Consultants Association of India.
He has several Research Publications in the field of armament Technology and Technical Reports/Departmental Publications to his credit. In addition, he has three Patents to his credit in the field of explosive technology.
