600 Israeli Soldiers Killed, 1,523 Wounded, Since Gaza War Outbreak: IDF Report

-

Six hundred Israeli soldiers have been killed since October 7, 2023, when the war with the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas broke out in the Gaza Strip. This was reported today by the Israeli Defense Forces.

The Israeli army said on its official website that Nadav Cohen, a 20-year-old Haifa resident, was killed in a combat in the southern Gaza Strip. With this, the overall number of Israeli soldiers killed in Israel and the Palestinian territories since the start of the war has reached 600. Among the 600 soldiers killed, at least 256 were killed in the Gaza Strip from October 27 onwards, when the ground military operation began in response to Hamas’ attack on Southern Israel on October 7.

More than half of the 600 casualties were killed in the unprecedented attack by Hamas on Israel on October 7. Other soldiers were killed in the occupied West Bank and on the border with Lebanon, where there has been almost daily exchange of fire since October 7.

Additionally, at least 1,523 soldiers were wounded in the Palestinian territories since the beginning of the ground operation, the Israeli army reported.

The list of “war casualties,” published by the Israeli army, which lists those killed since October 7, 2023, includes soldiers and reservists.
Israeli citizens who have completed military service, representing a large portion of the adult Jewish population, are required to serve as reservists in the army until the age of 40. Some Israelis choose to continue their military service beyond that age.

Another 169,500 soldiers serve under contract with the army (as professional soldiers and support staff).

Hamas’ attack on Israel on October 7 led to the deaths of 1,160 people, mostly civilians. At that time, approximately 250 people were abducted, with 130 of them still being hostages in the Gaza Strip. It is estimated that 34 of them may already be dead.

In response to Hamas’ attack on Israeli territory, Israel pledged to destroy the Palestinian group, which, together with the United States and the European Union, has been declared a terrorist organization, and launched an offensive that resulted in the deaths of 32,782 Palestinians, according to the latest data from the Hamas Health Ministry in the Gaza Strip.
