Airbus Lifecycle Services Centre Takes Off in Chengdu, China

The Airbus Lifecycle Services Centre (ALSC), which offers solutions to manage the whole lifecycle of an aircraft, has begun operations in Chengdu, China. This facility is unprecedented in its ability to provide a comprehensive array of services—including aircraft storage and parking, maintenance, upgrades, conversions, disassembly, and recycling—along with the regulated distribution of used parts resulting from disassembly.

The Airbus Lifecycle Services Centre in Chengdu has been cleared by the Civil Aviation Administration of China and by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).

The Airbus Lifecycle Services Centre is a substantial facility with 125 aircraft stowage spaces and a surface area of 717,000 square metres. By 2025, the site will have significantly expanded its operations, resulting in the direct employment of a maximum of 150 individuals. The primary structures have been constructed with the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification in mind, representing an initial stride towards mitigating the ecological consequences of activities at the ALSC location.

The Airbus Lifecycle Services Centre consolidates an alliance among Airbus, Tarmac Aerosave, the municipality of Chengdu, and Airbus subsidiary Satair. Tarmac Aerosave contributes to the initiative with more than fifteen years of experience in efficiently storing, disassembling, and recycling aircraft. Airbus subsidiary Satair, situated in the same facility, will trade and distribute used aircraft components to fulfil the full scope of lifecycle services. Seventy-five per cent of the aircraft stored in the facility are anticipated to resume operations following the joint venture’s upgrade and storage. Using the one-of-a-kind Tarmac Aerosave procedure, the remaining aircraft will be dismantled, recovering approximately 90 per cent of their weight.
