Diehl Defence and LIG Nex1 Partner to Bring IRIS-T Missile to the Asian Market

-

Diehl Defence has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with LIG Nex1, a major Korean defence contractor for missile systems and defence products, during this week’s ADEX International Aerospace & Defence Exhibition, which took place in Seoul (Korea). Since Diehl Defence’s short-range air-to-air missile IRIS-T was chosen for the KF-21, the company is progressively setting up cooperation projects with Korean industrial partners. LIG Nex1 is the best possible candidate in the country to support the IRIS-T programme, according to the knowledge and experience it has gained as an established missile firm.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aims to boost Diehl’s position in the Asian market by investigating potential avenues for collaboration under the IRIS-T programme.

The relationship between Diehl Defence and LIG Nex1 is an addition to the prior agreements that Diehl Defence has signed with Korea Aerospace Industries, Ltd. (KAI), which began in 2017 with the beginning of the process of integrating IRIS-T into the KF-21 fighter. After this, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed during ADEX 2021 about integrating IRIS-T on both KAI’s FA-50 and T-50 aircraft.

The expansion of Diehl Defence’s collaboration with Korean businesses marks the beginning of a new era in the IRIS-T missile’s story of triumph. Korean industrial partners are getting increasingly involved in the programme due to the expanding need for missile systems in the Asian market. These partners stand to benefit from these demands as their involvement in the programme increases.

Diehl Defence is not only developing new iterations of the IRIS-T system, but it is also expanding market potential for applications that use the IRIS-T system. As a result of the continued work being done, IRIS-T will have an expanded performance potential, allowing it to safeguard platforms from present and future threats better.

By improving the existing serial state of its missile, Diehl Defence ensures that IRIS-T will continue to have a long and productive life in the military for many years to come.
