Enthusiastic music enthusiasts flocked to The Hyderabad Public School in Begumpet on October 28 to behold the enchanting ghazal performance of the esteemed maestro Talat Aziz. As part of the school’s year-long centenary celebrations, Jagirdars College and the Hyderabad Public School Old Students Association hosted the event, further enriched by the ghazal performance of the legendary alumnus Talat Aziz.
The ghazal evening was replete with sentiments of nostalgia and festivity. It fostered a sense of unity among participants through their shared appreciation for Ghazals and produced enduring recollections for all in attendance.
Performing at his alma mater was not an ordinary occasion for Talat Aziz Maestro. A homecoming, he had returned to his origins. As he prepared to dedicate his composition to the educational institution that had profoundly influenced and formed his being, his delight and anticipation were palpable. Regarding his performance at HPS, he remarked that it was an honour to return to the institution that, in innumerable ways, moulded and educated him. He stated that he has returned to this location frequently and that each visit should be cherished. It is wonderful to see Hyderabad expand by such a rapid rate of development, and it is even more delightful to see HPS celebrate its centenary, he said. A personal touch was added to the evening when he recounted anecdotes from his school years, providing the audience with a view into the artist’s formative years at HPS.
For this musical spectacle, the open-air theatre, which could accommodate 2,000 fervent spectators, was magically transformed into a realm brimming with sounds and sentiments. To begin, Talat Aziz performed a selection of his renowned Ghazals, imbuing each note with melancholy. His vocal performance evoked a profound emotional response from the audience, enthralling them.
With compositions by himself and renditions of masterpieces, the maestro captivated an audience with his melodies. The evening surpassed temporal boundaries and enchanted the spectators into a realm brimming with poetic splendour.
The celebrations for the Hyderabad Public School’s centenary commemorated the institution’s extraordinary trajectory spanning a century. The Hyderabad Public School Society was established in 1950, following the abolition of the Jagirdari System, to assume control of the school under the Societies Registration Act. At that time, everyone was permitted to enter, regardless of caste, religion, or social standing.
